I unfold the gussets so the part being sealed is the same thickness across the whole seal.

That's enough room.  Sometimes the filter gets caught up in the twist, but once the tie is on, and the seal can be released the place where the bag was twisted becomes an untwisted air plenum.  Be sure to put the tie on no more than an inch from the top of the bag.

I'm getting really frustrated, I switched to the plastic ball brand lids for grain.  I have a 1/4 in hole.  I stuck a vendor ordered sfd under the lid.  It tucked in nice,. After the PC cycle, they won't stay in.    My first 8 jars had no issues, now every day after won't hold them.  Anyone else have this issue or a fix? Silicon them on?

All my plastic lids warp to some degree, there won't be a sealing issue?  I called the vendor I bought them from.  They said they were designed to be run with just a metal band, no lid.  I'm already struggling with contam issues, I want to make sure things are sealed up

I do have a tendency to make my lids tight. I'm prepping more later later.  I'm out looking for those seals right now locally.  My first 15 jars with this setup worked great. Then the next 15 didn't.  Thanks boogie

Sealers are dope once dialed in but zip ties work just as well.  I have been able to throw around my zip tied bags to distribute the grain just as much as my sealed ones.

No problem man. How'd the test go?

I left the lid unscrewed but still on really loose and it still exploded lol. I tried again without the lid on and they held up. I thought about pouring them in the sab but it seems like a nightmare trying to get it into such a small hole lol

I posted this in AMU as well but sometimes it can be slow to get a reply (which is fair enough, nobody is paying them). Anyway...

Let's say your agar dishes from a huge variety of cultures ALL show mycelium which is almost grey around the transferred wedge. Is this automatically bacteria? The mycelium isn't puffed up at all, and after a few millimetres it goes to a normal white colour.

You can see exactly what I mean here, this isn't my pic but it's exactly the same

Not bacteria, that's perfectly normal.

Do you know why exactly it happens and why sometimes plates are fully white all the way from the wedge?

What is the shelf life of unopened pasty plates.  I got these out after 3 or 4 weeks and they are green, black, pink, etc.
