This is really encouraging. I've never seen politicians or ordinary mainstream news people talking about psychedelics in the same way that they talk about marijuana. Now that marijuana laws have loosened up so much though, they're finally admitting that maybe we've been wrong about other drugs too. I have no doubts though that uber-conservative media outlets are going to be like "California and the liberal media have gotten their goal of legalizing weed so now they want to legalize all drugs. Here's an article showing a politician trying to decriminalize psychedelics that make you go crazy."
California's laws are significantly more relaxed than other states though. California is one of the only states I can think of where possession of shrooms or LSD is a misdemeanor and not a felony.

Interesting as California remains one of the few states where spores are illegal to buy or sell.
It would be a huge step forward just to get psilocybin on the ballot, even if it didn't come to pass. The general public doesn't seem to grasp the benefits to tripping. I feel like many write off any serious discussion on psychedelics as "hippy talk". Even some kids of the newer generations have this kind of mindset due to propaganda spread from the 70s making its way down the line.
If this thing makes it to vote, we could see all kinds of media coverage on shrooms. And it all starts by opening a topic for discussion.

It is crazy for naturally occurring organisms like marijuana and mushrooms to be outlawed. Especially mushrooms, which for the most part, have not been large scale artificially selected for additional potency like marijuana has. Glad to see California is hopefully coming to it's senses.

Yeah its weird, support for marijuana legalization in my generation is overwhelming but for some reason most people haven't extended that to psychedelics.

I would be a 100% yes on decriminalization.
I would be a 100% no on legalization.

I'm 100% for decriminalization.
I'm also 100% for medical use for the treatment of depression in a clinical setting, interesting research seems promising.
Long term i am for legalization, but short term i think it would be foolish for the cause, because the average individual is uneducated about psychedelics and has a high chance to use them irresponsibly. It would only take a few cases of ignorant people being injured before a moral outrage would cause a repeal of legalization.

I agree about the perils of full legalization without some kind of framework in regards to harm reduction and education
