Rye Berry Question Newbie
    #24590896 - 08/30/17 04:09 PM (3 years, 8 months ago)

So I had a successful grow using a kit and now I want to do it the proper way. I made a SGFC and I have about 6 jars of rye berries that are almost ready to inoculate. My question is can I just put the inoculated Rye Berry cakes on top of my perlite or do I need to add another step. I know when I used  kit after inoculation I had to put it in another bag full of some kind of manure. Please dont bitch at me teling me to search for it cause I did. Im a disabled veteran trying to work thru some shit and these are helping. I want to be able to be self reliant on making them and not have to risk incarceration. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

If you have colonized grains, why not just spawn them to bulk in a monotub?

IMO this would be more efficient and easy.

How many quart mason jars does it take to use in a 70 something gallon monotub

Honestly, I would look into some of the Monotub Teks. Can never go wrong with monotubs. For a noob I would suggest 50/50 coir tek and a monotub. It's easy and as long as you follow the instructions you'll reap some serious rewards! IMO

Here's a good read!

That sucks...Just spent all that time making a SGFC and bought a big bag of perlite...If you think monotub is the way to go I'm gonna give it a shot

what would happen if I mad a bulk substrate and put it on top of the perlite in a SGFC...If that sounds really dumb I apologize in advance...just a question.

Can't help ya there but I definitely would not suggest it.

To be perfectly honest, if I were in your shoes, I wouldn't inoculate your jars. I understand the investment made in the grains and preparation of them as well, but since you already have the SGFC made, I would look into pftek

You're going to need some other ingredients and items if you wish to explore grains.

Thanks I watched a few monotub videos and I think that is the way I am going to go. I might not be able to do different strains but it looks like for the effort you get a good reward, and as a newbie it seems pretty straight forward not having to do casings and all that.

If you already made a SGFC, that might be a good option.

Other people on here have made them work, but when I tried grain cakes in a SGFC the mushrooms were all tiny because the grain cakes can't hold enough water. Great pinset, but tons of tiny, tiny shrooms.

IMO, you should spawn your grain to 50/50 coir/verm mix. Do them in few small containers, then put those in your SGFC.
