splitting caps

my foaf's casing is progressing very slowly and now that the pins are starting to mature (although they're very short), the caps are splitting.. and this seems to be something to do with moisture, perhaps?

anyone know what might be causing this, if that's not the case? and if it is, are there any remedies? hevvy & i were thinking that if our FOAF used a syringe to inject water into the mycelium, that it might help.. but we don't know..

A rubbermaid container, probably a couple of feet long and a foot and a half deep or something. A space heater sits next to it, fanning is done multiple times daily for aeration, and water is misted into/over the casing for humidity (aside from the casing layer).

is the rubbermaid left sealed or does it have a air filter? space heaters suck all the moisture out of the air, try using some perlite/lava rocks/hydro w/airstones. dont air it out with space heater dry air either.

it's usually sealed. there's no air filter. the heater sits outside of it and near it so that it directly heats the container, which usually makes the moisture and stuff cause humidity inside.. or so we think..
