Multiple questions about first cakes
    #2458066 - 03/21/04 08:03 PM (12 years, 8 months ago)

A large pictures of my three cakes can be found here:
http://apotheosis.tv/files/Faith%20hot%20+%20Matt%20ambien%20+%20shrooms%20046.jpg

I am wondering a few things.

a) After I places the cakes in the terrarium a fluffy white fuzz has begun to grow all over the original mold and some of it even seems to be on the stem and caps of the shrooms. Is this anything I have to worry about? I didn't see it in the contam FAQ.

b) Why are two of them growing right into the perlite like that? Will this stunt their growth? Is there any way I can cause them to grwo more upwards?

c) You can't really see in the picture but on the right cake I have two shrooms - one average sized and one small - that are growing right down into the lid of the jar the cake is resting on. Should I just harvest these now since they obviously can't grow much anymore or should I wait until I harvest the rest?

a) Thats just mycelium growth and may be caused by too much humidity. Not anything to worry about

b) If you give them more light from above on a longer time period (i use 8 hours) they will grow up. It shouldnt stunt the growth if you don't

c) Wait until you harvest the rest. its not too big a problem to be worrying about

Thanks. I had read that light isn't that important so I was just letting the afternoon sunlight do it's job. Now I'll keep a desklamp resting on top of the container during the day.
