Found out why the blower motor in my car stopped working. Took it out today and the whole thing was filled with a mouse nest. Buncha insulation/twigs and shit they'd gathered. Reached my hand as far into the air channels as I could digging crap out, its like they filled the entire air channel network with insulation :huxleyfacepalm:

Found a mouse nest in my air filter couple years back too. Wonder where else I should check..
Time to get some mouse bait

Sometimes when I start my car up it struggles to keep running and will die. Think its a fuel issue, if I push the throttle a few times in park it'll help it keep going but it'll still struggle. Once I actually start driving it'll run without issue. Any ideas what it might be?

Fuel filters pretty new, spark plugs are pretty new, maybe its an air issue. I hear faint hissing in the engine compartment near the intake manifold. I'm hoping its not the fuel pump, or maybe fuel injectors. If you can't tell I'm a bit clueless as to how to troubleshoot this issue, time to get reading I suppose

If you hear a faint hissing check all your vacuum hoses, if you've got a vacuum leak that would cause rough/lumpy idle.

thanks. After watching a video with examples of rough idles caused by leaks I think you're definitely right

Are you sure it's not a trick because I'm vindictive and have it out for you?

I can hardly believe that you would believe I would help you.

Absolutely. It has been since the first moment for me. I have never had it out for you nor antagonized you. You just broke the rules in S&R a bunch of times and I acted in the best interest of the community in that subforum by warning you repeatedly and banning you. It was never personal for me like it seems to be for you, but I couldn't resist trying to make light of it in this situation because you seem to have held a view of me that i'm some kind of vindictive monster with a grudge against you for some time now.

Nothing could be further from the truth, BTW. I'm really happy that I could be of some help.

Have you played with all the vacuum hoses whilst she's idling yet? You'll find the culprit when you manage to locale the leak and plug it with a finger.

I suppose we'll have to agree to disagree on that point, you know full well what you did.

But its all in the past, I'll probably be saving hose fiddling for this weekend

Old thread but worth a bump. [Re: Psilosopherr]
    #27860418 - 07/12/22 08:42 PM (1 year, 6 months ago)

I know it's an old thread but I figured it's worth a bump to see if anyone else has any projects or questions nowadays.

I picked up this Scion tC, it's in fantastic condition. Interior is mint, never smoked in, 5 speed. Car was well maintained and cared for until it locked up. Balance shaft bearing spun, sending aluminum bits coursing through the engine which then spun to main bearings:

So I tore the old engine down to salvage what I can. It's getting ready to be mocked up so I can build a turbo manifold, all in good time. In the meantime I ordered a low mile JDM engine, Toyota 2AZFE not a bad engine. So I got it cleaned up and painted in high temp enamel. Engine will hopefully be going in this week sometime:

The car will eventually be getting turbocharged. I'll be building the old block/head with low comp pistons, forged rods and new Toyota factory crankshaft. Build the head with stainless/titanium valves and retainers. A lot of fabrication to make a manifold with runners equal length as possible. Then plumb up the intercooler and begin the hectic road of tuning once my turbo kit is built. Hoping to hit around 280hp at the wheels. Nothing crazy, FWD is hard to control with too much boost.

Anyway, there's my car project. The car is actually for my daughter and she's been learning about everything as we go. As much as a 16yr old girl can be interested in swapping an engine out, lol. She just wants it done...

I always appreciate projects where people do shit themselves and not rely on shops and dealership nonsense.
In reading your description, I can't help but think of countless Hondas...etc that went to the scrapyard due to little kids putting "cold air intakes" on and driving in the rain.
I bet, had you had that since new, a great Toyota like that would be a 300,000mi car.
Best of luck with your project
