Please HELP! Mycelium or not??
    #24564223 - 08/19/17 12:27 AM (6 years, 7 months ago)

(If you want history of the syringe its in the thread 'Smuggling spore')

Jar history:
Using Pf tek Method.
1) I used 2 : 1 : 1 ratio for the substrate, although i might have over done it with the water, the VERM was absorbing it! Tilting the bowl formed a little puddle, i have deducted the verm was too wet to begin with.

2) The jar while sterilization in the PC didn't actually receive a full hour at 15 PSI. The pressure dropped for a while because of low gas pressure. ( I had to make tea) Fml. Lol

3) The jar has been colonizing at over 30 Degree celsius, may have reached 33 Degrees too, normally the ambient temperature in the after-noon. I live in a hot country.

4) The jar was one specimen of the batch of 4. This was the only jar that showed any sign of growth. This i noticed on the 15th day. So for this hardy mofo, i though to lower the temperature, youknow give it a break, So i added it to a icebox and now it sits around a temperature of 27 Degree Celsius average. 3 Days it has been inside the icebox.

The growth i observed on the 15th day.

Here are some pictures of the growth after 3 days in the icebox. I doubt this is mycelium but if it is i think i might have the Chuck Norris of mushrooms.

I'd like to see more mycelial cords; as seen here:

but it's likely okay. I don't see a lot of reasons that it would be anything other than myc.

But I'm just a beginner. So don't take my word for it.

I see a few things off
It's super wet in the jar,
could be from temp changes
but also mold/bacteria.
Your dry verm layer has fallen into the sides of your jar
The cake may have shrunk
but you could have also handled it to much,
the dry verm layer is your filter with PF Tek
all the nasties fall on it and if it slides down before myc takes hold those nasties can/will take hold

It looks like mycelium but that's a strange growth pattern.
Did you inoculate from 5 different holes as is standard nowadays?
How much of your syringe did you empty into that jar?

My best guess is you went over kill on the spore solution during inoculation. This would explain the excess of moisture and the instantaneous appearance of mycelium.

I'm still new to this so this is just a theory. Wait for an experienced cultivator to come along. SERIOUSLY, take this as a guess not a diagnosis.

If it's 100% colonized then let it sit for 7 days to consolidate. Then crack the lid and give it a sniff.  If it smells like store bought mushrooms you're more than likely good to go.  So birth it and put it into a fruiting chamber.

If when you open the lid it smells sour or musty then toss it and start over..

Good luck!

Yeap my verm was super wet, i inoculated through 4 holes, do you think my verm is too fine (that my substrate is not airy enough)?

Looks like mycelium to me.

Like Blink said, first let it consolidate and then when you birth it, the smell will let you know if it is not.

Hard to describe the smell of mycelium, not sweet, not foul, just kind of musty and wet.  I guess like  'a store bought mushroom' is sort of accurate, except mycelium in your jars smells stronger than that.

Was it fine grade verm? When I did pf jars i used medium which turned out fine
couldn't tell you if that's a factor or not. Like the above peeps said wait a few days/a week from 100%, birth it and smell test it.
If it starts to pin before 100% or completely stalls out it may be a lost cause.

Thats WBS right? You're doing Spores to Agar? Agar to Grain? Then G2G?

I thought Pf tek was supposed to be easy, but the germinating times are cruelly slow. Im thinking of G2G for my 4th attempt.

Looks like myc to me but hard to tell.
Also take the foil off no need for it.

There is no tin cap beneath. I'm using the aluminium  foil as a makeshift cap.
Two more better quality pictures..seems the Myc is growing.

The syringe i used.

Yes this is before shaking the syringe, the floaty broke into half a dozen floatys.
