Professor Jas A. Lyon's psychedelic-like account of 1900 eclipse with no glasses on....
    #24568511 - 08/21/17 01:34 AM (3 years, 8 months ago)

"After the first contact, which was exactly on time, every man watched the body of the moon slowly eating it's way into the sun's disk.  Little apparent change in the landscape occurred until ten or fifteen minutes before totality.  Then the air became perceptibly cooler, the breeze which had been brisk dropped to almost nothing, as generally occurs in fair weather late in the evening, and probably from the same  cause.  The sky in the southwest grew darker and darker as the great shadow sped toward us at at the rate of about 1,250 mph.  I had covered one of my eyes with a dark cloth, so as to have it more sensitive to the faint streamers of the "corona", reserving the other eye to make general observations.  Just before the shadow was upon us, I uncovered this eye.  For a second or two, the mysterious shadow "fringes" played over the ground and on the white surfaces of the tents.  They appeared like shadows of ripples in clear water when the sun shines through it upon a white sandy bottom.  They ran along like waves, travelling from the southwest, and appeared to me about a foot or less apart.  The direction from which they came was that from which the shadow was approaching, and also with the wind.  A moment later and the eclipse was complete"  -Jas A. Lyon-  1900 Solar Eclipse at the Virginia viewing party

Here's the link below....

If you look at articles from the 1800's about solar eclipses, it wasn't common to use glasses, and none of them were reporting eye damage, and didn't mention to protect your eyes.  How come after hundreds of years, there have been no widespread accounts of millions of people getting bad eye damage from looking up at eclipses every few years?  You think this would have been known by the 1800's....

This guy says the landscape looked like it was covered with ripples of light shining through water.  Can viewing an eclipse without glasses be a psychedelic event?

I looked at it directly for a bit and my eyes are pretty much the same.

Doesn't feel much worse then staring at a bright screen for a long time or intense artificial light

Don't worry about me, I've got all that I need. And I'm singing my song to the sky

You know how it feels, With the breeze of the sun in your eyes. Not minding that time's passing by

I've got all and more, My smile, just as before. Is all that I carry with me

I talk to myself, I need nobody else. I'm lost and I'm mine, yes I'm free

i occasionally glanced directly at the sun, and realized i could use my phone to watch the sun through the camera. i probably destroyed the sensor on my phone but my eyes dont feel that bad, guess i have to wait until tomorrow to really know
