I can be exactly the same, dependent on my mood. I've come to the conclusion it's because our low self esteem and confidence causes us to question everything we think. We perhaps don't think our opinions are valued.
I've realized recently it's just about doing it. Sometimes I dislike my posts, sometimes I love them. The latter is becoming more and more common with the "just do it" attitude. The hesitation and self doubt is where the mistakes come from.

You all really do to make sure you eat healthily and exercise, though. I'd be miserable if I could not go for a walk/cycle or do a calisthenics routine. Abstinence made me realise people in today's world eat for pleasure, because they are not happy - food addiction, per say. Eating to let your body flourish makes me euphoric and you feel more in control.

Whats up fellow opiate addicts?! Just wanted to check in and see how everyone has been here. Still working towards my two year mark off heroin in Nov. Been tapering down on my methadone and finally got on Harvoni to treat my hep c. Im about a week into treatment and the side effects to the harvoni are very minor just the occasional head ache here and there and fatigue. Im sure blessed to have gotten into a program to help cover this treatment because my first attempt at getting the Harvoni got denied. Thankfully my Dr faught for me to get it before it actually did damage to my liver.
All in all things have been great finally can say my life is comming together. Its a tought battle to stay off the dope but its possible everyone has their own way you just gotta find the right way for you

Yeah but it don't show up drug tests, it's got built in anti-injection features, and no matter how much I drink i'll never overdose.

He's not a fool, just misguided and doesn't know better...we addicts have all been there before. It seems only normal to self medicate, we've been doing it so long.

Drinking will either become your new "dope" or it'll push you into relapse. Neither situation is good.

I just gave up alcohol a couple weeks ago because i realized it was becoming my new dope. Now I stick to just smoking some chronic when I get that tickle to get high on something

I used to actually be an alcoholic. When I was 14-16 I stole a bottle of liquor every day.

My alcohol tolerance is so high. I drank a whole litre of 80 proof vodka the other day with no tolerance and I was barely inebriated. I've gone through two bottles of old crow and have yet to start slurring. Liver of steel. If I pushed my limits on a 2 pointer stamp of dope that would be a death sentence lol. Nobodies lacing my whiskey with fentanyl just yet.

It's also much easier to stop drinking. More dangerous but far easier.

You seem to be impressed with how much you can drink. I can drink a lot like that too. I've always been a binge drinker. Slamming hard liquor at one go by the pint.

Alcoholics can have a hard time realizing they're impaired. Trust me, keep drinking like that and it'll turn on you.

Yeah you're probably right. But the if the price of my mind being calm is alcoholism then so be it.

Oh and I drink slowly. Sip away at the bottle. Taste is important to me as well.

The bottle is not the answer, it can be just as easy to lose yourself in alcohol as opiates.

I don't think so man. I've never had an alcohol problem in my adult life though. It's better than shooting dope but it's not a substitute really it's a different drug with a far different range of effects.

It's like comparing trazodone to heroin sure trazodone can be bad and kill you and all that jazz but it really is better.

And let it be known that kratom is very much an opiod! The easy withdrawals and weaker effects mean nothing!

It's like saying you're clean when you're popping hydros every day.

Role of mu and delta opioid receptors in alcohol drinking behaviour.

Méndez M1, Morales-Mulia M.
Author information
Abstract
The dopaminergic mesolimbic system plays a key role in the mechanisms of reinforcement elicited by alcohol (ethanol) and other drugs of abuse. Numerous lines of evidence indicate that ethanol reinforcement mechanisms involve, at least partially, the ethanol-induced activation of the endogenous opioid system. Ethanol may alter opioidergic transmission at different levels, including the biosynthesis, release, and degradation of opioid peptides, as well as binding of endogenous ligands to opioid receptors. Several studies suggest that mu and delta opioid receptors play a major role in ethanol reinforcement and dependence. These studies implicate enkephalins and beta-endorphin as physiological mediators of ethanol's actions in the brain. In this review we describe the pharmacological characteristics of opioid receptors and their distribution in brain, as well as the major functions of their endogenous ligands. Thereafter, we present evidence supporting the participation of mu and delta opioid receptors in ethanol reinforcement mechanisms and high alcohol drinking behaviour. The use of opioid receptor agonists and antagonists, as well as ethanol-preferring selected rodents and knockout mice, has contributed to understand the role of mu and delta receptors in these processes. The effects of ethanol on binding of selective ligands to opioid receptors in different experimental models are also reviewed. The relevance of opioid receptors in human alcoholism is further evidenced by the association of mu receptor polymorphisms with ethanol dependence. The clinical implication of these findings is discussed regarding the differential responses observed in some alcoholic patients to treatment with opioid receptor antagonists such as naltrexone.

I still think about heroin all the time. I picked up a cold today which sucks. You know what heroin was used for at the beginning? Cough suppressant

And damn does that shit work wonders. 4 years I've been clean. It's annoying to say the least.

I buy things now instead of dope. Things that aren't really necessary but just the act of buying something releases endorphins.

Considered buying a bag of dope. In this tweaker town. I can get it. But decided to try and sleep instead. Browse facebook for anything to look at.

I fill my time with things to not do it again. Distractions. The life of a junkie sucks. I should be enjoying the things I do but i'm occasionally thinking about a bag of dope as soon as I get sick. Ugh

What pisses me off about this "opoid crisis" the most is...

I've lost a lot of good people od'ing on it. They weren't inherently bad people just lost souls as I was and still am. I just got lucky.

They never cover the actual facts either. The US government banned the op 80 pills and junkies will be junkies. So everyone switched to heroin. I've od'd once on a half a nift. .05. lacing it with all kinds of junk. At least with a pill you are getting the exact same thing every time.

America started the war on drugs and they have it so ass backwards it's dumb. Well more than dumb I could fill this entire page with me ranting about good people that I've lost from it. It makes me super sad.

If I wouldn't have left my home, Alaska, when I did I'd probably be dead right now myself. Super expensive too. Nifty for a fifty. .10 for 50$ but generally your getting .08.

I can't help but think I'm not really that valuable. I'd trade my life for a few of those people.

Ya know? I will never ever give anyone heroin or any opiod that has never done it. I am not going to be responsible for this. It's the most boring drug though I never truly enjoyed heroin. I found it kind of meh as I don't nod off or any of that shit when I do it. It provides me with a big old meh feeling. I just kept doing it and when your dope sick ya being somewhat normal is ok.

Nothing good comes of it at all. I spent up my jar of cash with 5 grand in it. Lost my job, my apartment, left my home. I don't know what else to really say. It ruined the age of 20-22 when I was in my prime. I went to college for a year and passed all my classes but I would just leave when my heroin dealer hit me up. Tapping my foot jonesing.

Waste of life and time. I hate myself all the time for it and my ma loves to bring it up whenever we talk. Just reminds me how bad I want to get a bag of dope

Opiates suck.

Its a different drug that still can control your life. I used to be an alcoholic for years, and I can say compared to previous benzo addiction it holds the exact same amount of "need" for your fix.  Being around it my whole life too and knowing many many more people who have destroyed themselves from the bottle. Most of them ARE recovering addicts too...
