This post has been edited to compress the whole thread into 1 single post, mainly showing how I created a verdant moss garden in a fish tank and grew Psilocybe subaeruginosa in the terrarium and fruited it within a year. Three flushes were obtained in the first fruiting season.

The important things to do is to mist frequently and to keep the grow shaded from direct sun. Other than that, this is a low maintenance, no fuss approach to creating something beautiful which you can admire on a daily basis. That you get a supply of fresh subs from late autumn to early spring is a bonus!

You can easily and cheaply replicate what I did, and no sterile technique was used at all... no agar, no grains, no flowhood.

My starting materials: a fish tank; pine cones, needles and bark; Psilocybe subaeruginosa mycelium that I grew using cardboard tek and colonised woodchips from a garden bed; a bag of cheap potting mix.

I added a moss layer of different species that I had collected in parks and reserves.

Myc began to grow over the weeks and months that followed.

Nine months later the first mushrooms appeared but these were not subs but something else. I suspect they were Leratiomyces ceres.

And then the sub babies finally emerged, in late May which is autumn for us folks in the southern hemisphere.

In June this is what I got.

It is only early days yet but can't wait to see the outcome of this.

I started with a fish tank which was a roadside find.

Then a layer of soaked pine bark and pine cones:

Next a layer of pine needles:

A bag of cheap potting mix went in at the same time I added the mycelium-containing woodchips:

Then a bit more potting mix and finally a variety of mosses to grow on top of it all.

I mist several times every day with rain water and in the past few days have noticed mycelium growing next to the glass... one of the benefits of using a fish tank in this tek :smile:

I'm hoping I will have success with fruiting next year. During the summer months I may bring the fish tank inside, will make a nice display of greenery in the house. If all else fails at least I'll have a nice terrarium out of this.
