Projected mental images

Sometimes when i'm trying to sleep at night I close my eyes and picture something. or all of a sudden I'll start thinking of something for no reason and a clear image of it will appear right in front of me, like on the insides of my eye-lids. When it happens i get this weird sensation through my whole body. Like i'll think of a pizza out of nowhere and i'll see one right in front of my eyes and I get this jolt through my body. its the craziest thing ever. It doesnt happen very often but I've been practicing and hopefully eventually i'll be able to do it whenever I want. anyone know the technical term for this so I can do some research? And its not from drugs either in case you're wondering. It usually happens when I'm clean and sober.

its just a quick flash of a picture and it fades within a few seconds. Its not messed up, its awesome. it feels really good too. I think the sensation is just the excitment from seeing it happen but i'm not sure.

Ya well I dont have visuals of pizza. Thats pretty out there.
In Nepal they could think you were crazy if you had ego-loss and seen visuals of pizza.
It is temp in the sence that it will fade away when you become older and do less of what they call 'entheogens'.

Visualization and imagination. I know what you are talking about. I also listen to songs in my head. And voices.

Hey well sometimes voices outside my windows talk to me. Wispering... Then some Tibetian music plays in my head. If you are going into psychosis do it in style. Not pizza... -Gubjet

really eh? im surprised no one else had heard of hypnagogic imagery... the hypnagogic state is the state between deep relaxation and sleep. we all pass through it every night as we go to bed, and it is this stage of sleep during whiich you can experience vivid sounds, images or sensations, like dream imagery, while still in a 'waking' state. Sometimes these sensations are so vivid that they give you that 'jolt' feeling and wake you right up. its not psychosis or drugs, its natural and happens to everyone, so dont worry
if you want to learn to do it at will, when you go to bed try to focus on the black screen inside your eyes. dont anticipate, dont think of anything (try not to) and just let yourself slowly relax, but keeping watching the screen attentively. The next key is nto being jolted awake when the first images/sounds/sensations begin happening.
Wanna go deeper down the rabbit hole? this is the stage of sleep, once you have masterd it sufficiently, when you can enter the lucid dream/out of body experience/ astral projection states as well. Look it up if your interested

Entering the hypnagogic state is much easier while stoned or with DXM. Also the more tired you are while attempting it, the easier it is. You can enter into some very strange states of conciousness with enough practice.

"really eh? im surprised no one else had heard of hypnagogic imagery..." -- aren't these the theta waves(state of brain wave)?
beta waves = 'normal reality' (whatever that means) alpha waves = spaced out/'in the zone' type crap delta waves = dreaming theta waves = transition to sleep
That's how I rememberd it at least. Theta state is always the strangest for me. I'm always more concious than when dreaming. Seems to be related to free association. I go from one thing to the next rather rapidly. Usually when I encounter this state it is short lived and I jolt out of it (as PHARMAKOS so eloquently put it). Very interesting stuff reguardless. My mind's eye (and ear) can create some weird shit.

Yeah this has been happening to me a lot lately too, it always wakes me up though- I see images of weird people I don't know or hear ssounds that scare the shit out of me. Interesting to finally know what it is. While on the subject, I've been using melatonin to help me sleep lately and that has some interesting effects on my dreaming. My dreams are much much weirder, maybe something to look into for those into the dream world right now. Mugwart and Valerian root are also supposedly good for warping dream consciousness, but I haven't tried those yet.

for some time I have been getting a strange vision each time I'm about to fall asleep, I see some sort of giant grey sphere sitting somewhere in a grey universe. The strangest thing is the feeling of peace and perfectness that I get with this vision, and each time it pops into my mind for half a second then fades away leaving me with that strange feeling. anyone get something of the sort ?

Pharms right, its not psychosis!
I've had this all my life, it can be auditory as well as visual. The hallucinations are very real.
I happens to everyone but most don't realise or remember! Ever woken up because in your dream you are falling, when you hit your body its the same feeling!
