DIY Fogponic 1

It was time for me to build another fogponic box so I decided to snap some pictures to show someone the process of how I did it. It's fairly simple to build and barely requires any tools. All materials used: Non-transparent plastic box with lid - $5 Foggers - $2 each Net cups - $1 for 10 Rock wool - $1 for 20 2"x2" Drill - No home is complete without a drill Sandpaper
I started to measure the diameter of the rubber plugs on the foggers and drilled two holes in the side of the plastic box above the conceived water line. It's important that the plastic box used it non-transparent as a transparent box will make it easier for algae to grow in the water. Make sure that the holes drilled are not quite as large as the rubber plugs as you want it to be tight.
When the plug finally fit good, I grinded the sides on the holes down for a better looking finish. This also makes it easier to pull out and plug in the plugs without harming them in the long run. Before drilling holes for the net cups in the lid, I drilled in some paper to make sure the size would be right. On the lid of the container, I marked out 10 holes where I want to put the net cups and drilled with the same size on my drill as the top of my cups. Shown here is an old lid that I didn't grind the sides on the holes on. Also, that's why you can see stains from nutrition.
So far, this has taken me about 20 minutes, so it's not time consuming to make a few of these boxes. Making sure that both the cable holes fit good, I installed the foggers and sealed the holes with the rubber plugs. I also added some nutrition as well as Epsom salt.
When dealing with electronics in the water, the most fun part is plugging it in whilst your hands are wet and hoping you'll live to see another day. Add water and plug it in.
Looks great! Now add plants or seeds and put on a plastic transparent lid to make it more humid for the plants.
Neeto! Seen here is some bell peppers enjoying their life. This is my third box I've built. The next step is to put in LED lights in each box.
Has anyone else any experience with building fogponics or hydroponics?

I have a somewhat similar diy aeroponic mister, and I know a bother member or two hear who uses them in their mj cult operations. I use it to propagate cuttings of all sorts. Instead of the foggers it uses an aquarium pump(kinda large) and a pipe manifold with sprayers/misters. It's an excellent machine and is basically built after the ez clone design but at 10% cost. Gotta love diy Cheers

Neeto! I've thought about using this fogponic to grow cannabis in, but since it's illegal to grow, where I'm from, I won't. Perhaps I'll try it when I move to a place where it's permitted to grow your own cannabis.

It seems like it would work just perfectly. If it roots most plants(not just easy to root ones) then it'll usually root cannabis!
Cheers

yeah you can get a fogger for like 8 bucks on ebay.
Where did you get that clear plastic top to hold the fog in?

Foggers are quite easy to find on ebay. The quality on them however, are widely spread. The clear plastic top, is a hard plastic growing tray lid. I've got plenty of them from way back. They just happened to fit the box.

It's a local grocery store. But I bet you can find lids like theese in almost any grocery store that has a gardening area

I've had various quality on the foggers. As with all suppliers, some vendors are better than others when it comes to quality. I've had one going bad in a week and a few that's lasted a long time. If you're using nutrition in the water, it helps cleaning them every once in a while

Nice, easy design .
I could really use a efficient cloner/rooter. I think i have almost all the items including the foggers.
How much water you put in the plastic box and can the foggers be totaly submerged so the water is a few cm over the foggers?
I have looked at another type using an waterpump, pipes and small sprayers inserted into the pipes, but this seems way easier. My main concern is the foggers and if they run for longer periods without breaking. Are yours still functional?
Looks like the perfect tool to get roots on things like Mitragyna cuttings.

Thanks!
The foggers can't be submerged in the water, so you have to refill the water every once in a while. Though you can add some floaters on the foggeres and you'll be able to have a lot more water. Currently, I don't have any plugged in. I sowed some Jalapenos, Tomatoes and Paprica today, and when they've sprouted and grown a bit, I'll get the fogponic up and running again.

You are right, if the foggers can´t be submerged one can build a floater and attach the foggers so they hang at the right level. That was an excillent idea, then one don´t need refill so often. I see if i need buy any more supplies then i build one, can´t wait to try it. Tnx for the design idea.

This one is really working very well. Look at the roots on these Pereskiopsis after just a few days.

Looking forward to try put some Kratom into this one. It should work very good also.
Good design Micaele.
