I agree w/mg420...

i'd just throw a gallon jug of water in there... i had the same problem as you w/the 50 watt heater, and just upped the sized of the container and everythings workin great now (not quite up to 86, but i did get 84). I think the heater just may not have been able to keep up w/the rate the heat was dissipating.

would u put the jars directly on the heat blanket?? i think i heard somewhere that direct heat can do damage. i think i might use a heat blanket but i dont want to fuck anything up

Tub in tub IS the way to go.
Your heater is A O K
Will want to use an air pump to stir water .
That way you want get any hot spots.
