Incubator problems

well i tried to begin my first grow...i only got to 4 jars until i decided to wait till my pressure cooker comes..anyways...i innoculated these 4 jars and they have been in the incubator for 2 days...just got the thermometor today and the temp inside the incubator is only 78.... here is the outside of incubator here is the inside... it?s just a 50 watt heater in a planter?s peanut glass jar...im not sure if the heater i have is strong enough...it?s on the highest setting...can?t adjust by temp on it either...should i return the heater? or is this one fine and should i just incubate differently?

78 sounds fine, 80 / 85 would be optimal. With that temp, your incubation period will only be somehow longer
Patience will be the key...

wouldn't you consider 78 degree temp for a $13.99 water heater kinda a waste? anything i could do?

is your heater fully submersible? If so you should look into tub in tub method incubator... much more even heat and easier to regulate. 50W should be plenty, my buddy only uses a 25w heater i think.

Upload them to the shroomery so we can see them...
You could try to find some container that will fit inside the cooler (some sort of tupperware or something) and you could use the cooler for tub in tub... Kind of like how my buddy did his with a cooler and a mop bucket for example. Pretty easy to set one up if you get creative

Use a larger body of water. The more that you can make heat escape from your water the more often the heater will turn on and the warmer your tub will be.
You can increase the heat escape by increasing surface area and reducing thermal resistance. Use a large metal container , that will speed it up.
*note to self, go get a large metal container for heater*

yeah some of the coolers had a divider in the middle you could put in...so you could put water on one side and use a heater on it...with jars on the other...this one doesn't...was thinking i could make one somehow for the cooler...but i will actually just try to get a bigger jar for more water

Hey GanjaNamja, funny we are at the same stage... I tried somthing almost exactley like your set up with the jar, but ended up doing tub in tub, because it meant no humidty problems (if you ever use polifil); temperature seems to stay more stable; with clear tubs I don't have to open it to look at the thermometer (just move my sweaters aside...clever camouflage I thought.)
As for the metal container thing, I really wanted to do that too, but just couldn't find a metal container tall enough for the heater.
And btw, a 50watt submersible heater is proving powerful enough.

Just keep in mind metal + water = rust.
Be careful.

You can use aluminum, or some stainless steel alloys are rust resistant.

Yeah, I was referring to the coffee can idea. Coffee cans will rust pretty quick.
