Here is my opinion on the matter.  Musical tastes vary as much as taste buds; What sounds great while tripping to one my sound like a complete cacophony to others.  Phish is by far my favorite band of all time, with the Beatles (post '64) in second, followed by a tie between Grateful Dead, Zeppelin and Floyd.  However, The reason I love Phish so much is that I am obsessed with intricately composed/arranged music reminiscent of classical music.  Claude Debussy is arguably the most psychedelic musician of all to my taste buds; his music reminds me of a Van Gogh painting.  I get completely lost in his songs. 

The first time I ate mushies my friend put  the Dicso Biscuits album "they missed the perfume" in and when Haleakala Crater was coming in I was coming up and it was glorious.  A drummer I used to play with who also loved Phish (his favorite band was STS9) said many a time that Tool was his favorite band to listen to whilst tripping.  I don't think I would like that at all, but I completely respect him as a musician so I understand that his musical taste buds are vastly different than mine.  After college he pursued an electronic music career and I am now a bebop jazz musician, so it makes sense that we had different musical experiences on psychedelics.

As a side note this is a pretty cool story.  One time I took some mushies with 2 buddies and we listened to Dark Side of the Moon start to finish.  We turned on a lava lamp as we started the album and as you probably know lava lamps take a while to warm up and then they EXPLODE.  So during the last song, Eclipse, when they sing the last line of the album, "...but the sun is eclipsed by the moooooo-ooooo-oooon" the lava lamp EXPLODED at precisely absolutely exactly the moment that the last note of the album played.  All three of us saw it and just about shit our pants.
