Which Thermometer/Hygrometer is better?
    #2453061 - 03/19/04 10:12 PM (20 years, 14 days ago)

I was looking online for a digital Thermometer/Hygrometer that can measure temp and humidity, and has an external probe for measuring a second temp. I would put the probe in the incubator to keep an eye on temp, and put the base unit in the fruiting chamber to keep an eye on temps and RH. I would like to stay in the sub $40 range.

I found one from RadioShack
and one from Torka

I am currently using the RadioShack model, but was wondering if anyone has had any experience with the torka or with both, and can compare.

I would think the torka would be more accurate, since they are a company specializing in those types of instruments.

I would appreciate any thoughts.

Thanks.

I checked my local walmart and the walmart website and they didn't have it.

Out of curiosity, what do you use?

the 810CE looks good, with the external probe.

And the alarm feature could be used for something cool.

It lasts for 12 minutes, so for example, you could hook it up to a relay that could activate a linear actuator and a fan or something of the sorts and it could open your terrarium for twelve minutes a day and fan it for you while your at work.

Although, i suppose this could cause some aquard situations if grandma decided to drop by unexpectedly.  :tongue2:

It works just fine in my PMP. I have had zero issues with it, seems pretty accurate to.

If you go to lowes or home depot they should have ones for about $20 with an external probe included. I got one at lowes for 20, It was in the garden center area.

Yea, thats what I plan to do also.

I currently dont have anything in my fruiting chamber, so I have the main unit sitting by my computer.

I supose Im fairly satisfied with my radioshack model. I paid arround $25 for it. I wish I had found the walmart model sooner.
