put on a tight fitting lid (like in a mason jar). maybe if u have gauze stuffed in an Erlenmeyer and leave it for months or something it might contam or your fridge is super gnarly. but your gonna sterilize everything anyway

It sounds like a lot but it's actually more convenient than thawing grain water and weighing agar and water every time for 100ml. Like I said though. Petris are on the way!
Only concern I had was if you can overcook grain water. It hasn't been a problem yet.
Make 16 at a time and use as needed you're just adding more work.

Aint tegrity!
Id assume anything you put in the fridge that isnt sterile (besides mushrooms!), unless its not PCed yet, would eventually contam

I'd just make 20 plates at a time and store them in shoebox totes. It all depends on your myco load, goals, schedule, whatever. Do whatever suits you best, brah. For me, I like having shit on hand, so I'll make 40 PP's at once or pour like 40-60 plates. Find what is best for you. Just figure sterilizing and letting agar sit would be best done in their final vessels. You risk them drying out, but that's after 2-3 months IME.

Yeah man you're right. It comes down to what works for specific situations. And mine is unique. I only keep media in the fridge for a week or week and a half at most. No puor visibility sucks. That's why I'm switching to petris.

I keep agar that wont be in use for a while in the fridge. Generally (bodhi taught me this) if youre using it that week, no fridge needed. I dont mind a few pins, but when it gets shriveled, the end.
If its clean for real theres no problem keeping it in the fridge, it may just lose aggressiveness so if youre planning on using it best to keep it as strong as possible.
Takes a few days for agar to return to room temp and get its vigor back

It is more work I agree. But because of my situation I can't have a bunch of myco stuff in the fridge or a sab sitting out on my counter 24/7. I can however get away with a small jar or media bottle in it. It's more work but I'm making it happen.

Your sab has to be somewhere, might aswell use it as storage instead of your fridge. to each their own, do you.

It's not even midnight
Making up some grain and hopefully can get in front of the hood today. I've had it run the past 2 days just to not be able to get to it and turn it off.

I've had some pastey plates sitting next to my hood for months with only a few visible contams popping up...I chose to make new plates when they sit that long...but I did find a few plates that the lids had loosened up enough to tam out..those were all trashed as soon as I noticed the mold growing around the lids..so having them sit helped me out in a way

Sorry if it feels like im trying to be a dick, i just still dont get why youre going through the trouble. But im done trying to convince you that time adds up and you could be cutting it in half instead of doubling it

What? He's talking about uninoculated agar, not colonized plates. Zero, if you can store pints of solid agar in your fridge, why can't you make 20 Pasty Plates at once and store those instead? Just curious.

Maybe he has an ultra tiny PC. But I think we can all agree there's too much work being done just for a few spare plates.

I'm with everyone on thinking it's too much work. I fit 60 no-pours in a 23q presto. I'd rather get it all done in one big batch than have to use the pressure cooker constantly.

My girlfriend is clueless to my hobby. She knows I like to cook and can.and probably thinks a pint of agar is cooking related. 20 plates would raise questions I dont want to answer.

LOL, okay, fair enough, I guess. Although you can put 20 plates in a 16 quart shoebox and stash it wherever. But you do know that each subsequent step in this process is less and less ambiguous, right? Like where are you going to put jars of grain? And where are you going to prepare your substrate? And where does the tub go? What happens when mushrooms form? Anyway, I actually don't care. Do your thang, mang.

She lives 45 min away. I have that all worked out. The only problem is timing harvests. I've had to be a dick and tell her to stay away while I'm drying. It's only a problem on the weekend. Jars and tubs can be hidden .
