Nice! Gonna have to work on something like this. The most expensive single thing i ever bought for this hobby is the pc. 250 on a flowhood is great. Wanted one forever now. Sick of that glovebag/box stuff

They are better. But you still get contams. Mostly with a hood contams come from you. Your hands. For arms. Etc.  With a flowhood making sure you have freshly cleaned clothes on helps a lot. More so then with a SAB. I think.

So long as you wipe everything down that goes in the stream your Golden. And the comfort level is bar none compared to a sab.

Where they really shine is for doing volume. I bought mine because I was doing like 250 quRts every 2 weeks or so. Doing that much clean work with a sab sucked.
So I said fuck it and bought a flowhood. Lol.
I love it. Makes doing clean work not so......like. Fuck. I gotta do s bunch of g2g. Now it's like I gotta g2g 50 jars.  Ok be back in a hour. Lol. Literally

That is why when i work with agar or even just grain, i become OCD. Usually my hands are clean enough that i wouldnt contaminate any plates with just typical agar techniques. I also make sure to shower, brush teeth, and wear clean clothes when i do agar work.

But damn, i miss easy-as-pie and random MS grows. I guess you need to use a truly brand new and very clean syringe

I really do feel theyre becoming less common, since vendors prolly think everyone uses agar. I mean, if none are clean enough for MS grains lately, might as well just get prints. Syringes seem like theyre becoming a waste of $, but maybe its just me. Anyway, all prints from now on for me

Syringes were good because they grow well when introduced with water like that. But if they cant knock up a jar safely, its also alot harder to control the quantity you put on agar from a syringe, very hard to just squeeze a drop. Sometimes a half-cc goes into the plate with just a light squeeze. So, time to put the inoculation loop to work, i guess.

But maybe its just luck of the draw with the last two or so syringes for me, maybe i shouldnt assume theyre all too dirty for grains

Spore Depot.  I shoot that Escondido onto grains and a plates. Both cultures are doing fine. Even the ones in the jars. And I don't care. Lol. It's not bacterial. Idk maybe it is. But it's a healthy bacterial culture if it is lol.

But yeah. They still make syringes clean enough to shoot into grain jars.  I still do it myself from time to time. I'll usually run the gammit on a new syringe. Shoot spores into everything. Grain and dishes.

Everything except for LC. Even though if it's clean enough for grains. It should be clean enough for a lc. You would think.

Cats. They've uprooted my san pedro twice, pulled the polyfil out of a mini mono twice and a jar once. I'd be heart broke to wake up to find once beautiful antlers destroyed. When we move this spring I'm going to have a room specifically for mycology and ethnobotanicals that the cats won't have access to.

Found the sweet spot on the stove to where the PC sits at 18.5 psi where it will remain for the duration of sterlization.  :awesomenod:

I’m getting ready to do some monos of reishi ham.

Do you recommend sterilizing over pasteurizing the substrate?

I was planning on doing hardwood sawdust (from pellets) with 20% bran, ~5% gypsum and a handful of verm to fluff it up. Grain spawn red reishi.

Would that be ok to sterilize and spawn into the mono? Tape up and let go?
