Powerful Senate Committee Ties Jeff Session's Hands on Medical Marijuana PRESS RELEASE | 07/27/2017
Appropriations Committee Approves Amendment Defunding DOJ Medical Marijuana Enforcement
Strongest Signal yet that Congress Does Not Support Sessions’ Drug War Agenda
Today, the Senate Appropriations Committee voted by voice vote to approve an amendment that would block the Department of Justice from spending any funds to undermine state medical marijuana laws. The amendment – led by Senator Leahy (D-VT) – is a striking rebuke of Attorney General Jeff Sessions, who had personally requested that Congress eliminate the amendment and allow him to prosecute medical marijuana providers and patients. The amendment passed with strong Republican support, a sign that Sessions is isolated politically as rumors of a crackdown on marijuana businesses abound.
“The Senate is sending a clear message to Jeff Sessions – keep your hands off states that have reformed their marijuana laws,” said Michael Collins, Deputy Director of the Drug Policy Alliance’s Office of National Affairs. “Today’s vote is a huge win for the marijuana reform movement, because in the face of real pressure from the Department of Justice, the Senate has opted to block Jeff Sessions from interfering with any medical marijuana law.”
The amendment still has to make the final appropriations bill, but it has been added to the final government funding bill each year since 2014. The amendment is currently in effect after being signed into law this year, despite only receiving a vote in the Senate Appropriations Committee. The amendment – also known as Rohrabacher-Farr – has also been litigated in court with the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals ruling that, while the amendment is in effect, DOJ cannot prosecute individuals who follow state law on medical marijuana. Currently, 29 states have full medical marijuana laws.
The vote comes one day after the Department of Justice announced that the Attorney General would implement DOJ task force recommendations on a rolling basis. It is expected that one of the task forces will develop guidance on how DOJ will deal with states that have legalized marijuana.

Good. A better solution is for this asshat to just lose his job. Maybe he can go issue parking tickets or something.

This is good news indeed. The tide is shifting and no drug war dinosaur is going to stop it.
I agree, sessions is a total waste of space. He is probably trumps worst appointment though now he is hanging by a thread it seems. Trump is acting the jerk discussing things in public that should not be but if he fires sessions I may forgive him.

I don't believe Trump shares sessions views on the drug war. Trump has been a Democrat most of his life and is for gay marriage, he said we're gonna leave pot to the states. He hasn't mentioned anything in agreement with sessions on marijuana and I think he wants to fire sessions. I hope Trump does.

The thing about jeff sessions is that IF he had the true power and nothing stopping him, he truly does hate weed and most likely psychedelics even more. Its scary that hes willing to just go back to "lock em all up" because it shows the disconnect he has with consensus reality. All those non-violent petty drug arrests, i dunno if he believes it for real or just knows its a good way to arrest alot of people (anyone really). Or does he think this actually reduces crime. Im pretty sure those drug warriors are trained to know what theyre saying is false. If thats the case, maybe hes realizing that theres no one to arrest. Except his own boss and some fellow henchmen

I believe drug warriors absolutely know it's false. The CIA needs the price of drugs to be high, and no competition against them. They are the biggest international drug conglomerate that can legally make you disappear.

Told ya! The government strongly dislikes sessions, and his outdated drug war policies will not be upheld by a nation with a rapidly changing viewpoint on the matter. Even Trump himself apparently tweeted that he "wouldn't have hired the A.G. if I knew what he was going to do."

Trump has shown himself to be a loose cannon but if he fires sessions it will restore some of his credibility in my eyes. Sessions is the pits, the worst ag ever. The only thing I can say in his favor is he is upfront about his stupid ideas unlike holder and obummer who lied their asses off and prosecuted medical users along with dispensaries

Trump's just trying to save face, he knows the only reason he won was because of his collusion with the Russian gov't, at the very least he will go down in history as a traitor and demagogue

I think we're past the "saving face"
Face/Off time
Trump/Sessions
(Youd need to remember the box art for Face/Off lol, but i imagine instead of travolta and cage, these fucks)
Id pay good money for john woo stylized shoot-em-up trump vs sessions action. Especially if they change faces grotesquely and families too. Thats good entertainment.
And sessions goes after ivanka...oh wait. Trumps already on that.
Lol. Joke.
