Areca catechu (Betel Nuts) without lime...

Lo all...

Got 50g of cracked nuts on the way, but can't get lime (can't read the packages of anything and don't wanna poison myself).

Can I just chew on 'em straight, or could I use another alk. as a substitute (baking soda...??)

(got a big order of all sorts of stuff I wanna try on the way, so expect a few posts like this if Erowid doesn't have what I need...)

I got some Ball brand pickling lime from walmart by the canning stuff...its hydrated lime and approved for ingestion. like $1.50 for 12 or 16 oz, more than you'll need.

I think it may be necessary, or at least help out a lot. Go check walmart, yours should have it.

Those nuts really help me get through the day at work.

Probably does... (but I'm in Japan and I can't read Kanji for shit and my language skills aren't up to discovering if pickling lime is ALL it has in it)
