Rehab clinic lets patients smoke weed (and even offer it as a treatment)

A drug rehabilitation clinic is trying out a new approach to get people off drugs – by letting them smoke weed.
High Sobriety in Los Angeles calls marijuana an ‘exit drug’, and has started using it as part of their treatments.
The facility’s website states: ‘High Sobriety supports comprehensive mental health and addiction techniques for individuals to achieve their goals, live healthy lives, and have a chance to realize their potential, which may or may not include total abstinence.
‘High Sobriety respects diversity and understands that recovery is self defined and self determined.’
Many patients reportedly use the drug, which is legal in several US states, to transition off harder drugs such as opiates.
Dr. Mark Wallace, chairman of the division of pain medicine in the department of anesthesia at the University of California, San Diego, told Alternet.org that he has used several hundred patients transition off opiates by moving them onto marijuana.
The clinic also believes allowing former drug addicts to smoke marijuana will help prevent them from relapsing on their sobriety.

This is actually not a bad idea. I have some conflicted feelings about it, but I honestly think it's not a bad idea. If you can quit something like stimulants or opiates here when you couldn't elsewhere, then I think it's a benefit. Maybe.
I have a problem with rehab clinics in general. We have no information on their effectiveness, and from all the people I've ever met or known they don't seem to be very effective. They often overly control the lives of their clients in a strange almost cult like way. They often force religion and other values on their clients. In theory, such a place could work, but they're currently run on nothing but assumptions and propaganda without any real scientific evidence.
The way rehab clinics run in third world countries disturbs me even more. Some look like insane asylums out of the 1800s. Common disciplinary methods include torture, rape, and murder. This makes me severely question the usefulness of rehab clinics as a concept.

Cannabis can really help with alcohol addiction as can mushrooms.
I was going to die soon from alcohol. 230 pounds at 5 foot 10 and 16 drinks per day. Quit for seven years on my own, relapsed (concious choice) for three and quit again...going on 19 months no booze. 165 pounds and in decent shape now. The brain damage and memory loss has been the hardest to overcome but the brain is resilient and in less than 2 years I see huge differences in memory and overall mood.
Cannabis is a medicine even if used recreationally. I use it every day and I have no compulsion or need to ever drink again. Smoke weed!!

Great work man! Glad you are feeling better
In a related note I have seen a lot of alcoholics over on the Reddit kratom sub talk about how kratom has totally killed their desire to drink

Kudoes dude.
I developed a constant longing for alcohol, looking forward to when I could have a drink. Since my father was an alcoholic it had me very concerned. A six gram shroom trip changed that in one day, the urge to drink vanished. Oddly it took me a week to consciously realize it. And when I did drink again it did not have the same effect as it used to have on me. Fast forward a more then few years and my urge to drink is still gone even though I brew my own wine can drink all I want at any time. And since I bought a soda stream machine I can make any flavor cooler I want from white wine cheap and easy. But I would rather just get stoned most of the time drinking mostly on the weekends and never before six. Wake and Vape! almost every morning.

Kinda wish this was the case for me. Im drinking 10-20 drinks per day but I also smoke weed and use kratom daily. Alcohol is for me the most addictive substance Ive ever used and Ive been around the bend so to speak.. Meth crack heroin etc..

How much kratom do you use? Also what kinds? It's interesting how differently kratom effects some people.
Anyways good luck, I think part of why alcohol is one of the hardest addiction wise is how our society glorifies and promotes it everywhere...
I nearly died as a kid from what was likely alcohol poisoning, and I have known others who have had similar close calls

The best thing I've seen work is Ibogaine. I support what ever works. Habitual cannabis use is certainly better for addicts, their family and society then habitual heroin/opiates, cocaine, meth and other more traditional "drugs of abuse."

Even alcohol is way worse then cannabis in a lot of cases. Hell even nicotine is more of a public nuisance and even safety threat with people throwing lit cigs around...
Joints can start fires too of course but people are more cautious with them generally. Hell a fire broke out recently from a cig butt and caught a warehouse on fire here. It burned the big industrial AC units for my moms shop there which cost her thousands to replace... Thankfully she just got insured but it still was a bit setback to deal with. All from a tossed cig out front
