Can anyone advise me or have any ideas about this: I knocked up 6 jars 3 colonized 1 was contaminated and the last one has colonized all but one small spot on the bottom. The caked I have in the fruiting chamber are doing nothing, it has been 7 days. It like everything just stopped. Should I fruit the one jar that seems too have stopped? How long before something should happen with the cakes that I have in the fruiting chamber? I am not sure how this forum works, if anyone replies. You can email me at -probably don't want your email public here- also. Thanks

All this makes me wish I had found shroomery sooner. ._. I'll have my agar materials and 5 spore syringes Friday, so hopefully I'll have an exciting few weeks ahead.

It's not recommended to inoculate your grains with spores. spores/syringe may have contams. I've gotten away with it too but you're much better off germinating your spores on agar then inoculating with a wedge into your grains.

is it because of the colonization time from spore to active colony on the grain? Im guessing brown rice will take a foothold a lot quicker than on grain therefore giving the colony a better chance at life against contams? i dunno, ive always done pressure cooked grain to manure never really thought about it or had problems.

Question about mushy caps [Re: bodhisatta]
#24703899 - 10/12/17 03:57 AM (6 years, 5 months ago) |

First time grower here, I'm just curious of its natural, per genetics, or am I doing something wrong. I have a cap that has kind of shriveled after the veil has opened. Another looks like it might do the same. I also have some that are looking cracked on the top but feel healthy and hydrated. I'm growing golden teacher from a multispore syringe in a monotub. My rh only drops below 90 when I'm misting and my temp inside my box are reading right at 80 degress F. I have teo tubs and both have some that are doing this while having some that arent. So my question is, am I doing something wrong or is this just an example of genetic differences in a multispore?

No its because spore syringes are not really clean enough to inoculate anything but cakes or agar with.
Cakes don't get shaken and agar can separate the nasty from the good. With agar you get clean mycelium for inoculation of grain
