Growing near high noise levels
    #1178911 - 12/30/02 04:49 AM (21 years, 3 months ago)

The only place I have to grow is the same place my band practices. We don't play really loud, but loud enought to keep up with a drumset in a small room.

Will the vibrations have any effect on growth?

don't truly have a definitive answer but I seriously doubt that vibration (of the musical variety, earthquakes and windstorms are a different matter) would have any effect on production. I'd be more concerned with having contaminating bodies (read bandmembers) in the grow area.

I doubt whether there would be any effect, but this is new ground, maybe you could report back with the results

I would not leave them in front of the woofers. but can't see any problems with this..

Contams,, well, lots of drafts and shit, might be a problem... keep them well sealed up!

This is something I've wondered about for over a year. I had a custom stereo system on my computer (until I blew it up, trying to test the noise/vibration theory) which I once turned full blast during a 6 hour trip. My babies were in the room with me. The stereo was vibrating the entire room for that 6 hours, and I was SHOCKED when I came down about 2:00 aand opened my boxes to give them some air. This is back when I was still using cakes, and having so-so luck. My mushrooms grew like WEEDS during that 6 hours! My cakes were falling over from the weight. All my mushies at least doubled during size during that 6 hours - no shit.
I posted my hypothetical theory that maybe vibration accelerated growth (here at the shroomery), but there wasn't a lot of feedback or experience among the group.
I tried to test my theory a few weeks later, by taking b4 and after pics, but about 1 hour into the experiment, my woofer blew up.
I don't have any other way to shake my room, so who knows? We wash a lot of laundry, and I've been thinking about setting one of the boxes on top of the dryer (it shakes a bit) during laundry day, but need to check out the temp on top of the dryer first.
I don't know about intermittent vibration, because my original (accidental) experiment consisted of 6 straight hours of nonstop LOUD noise, and total (mild) room vibration. I would love to see someone replicate my experiment in some way and report back.
I've never had any babies grow that fast since, no matter how much air, moisture or tlc I give them. I'm fairly well convinced that either the noise or the vibration (or the combination) made them very happy for that 6 hours.

I really doubt this will make any type of noticeable impact. Of course, it hasn't been proven either way, so keep us updated.

I know there's been some controversy over noise pollution but usually its really high db like at dragstrips and such and they do 'suposedly' injure plants. Don't know about the fungi kingdom though but if i was a betting person i'd bet it wouldn't hurt the mush.

Prohibition will work great injury to the cause of temperance. It is a species of intemperance within itself, for it goes beyond the bounds of reason in that it attempts to control a man's appetite by legislation, and makes a crime out of things that are not crimes. A Prohibition law strikes a blow at the very principles upon which our government was founded.

What's an ashcan? Are you talking about a sustained noise? If so, for how long? I didn't bother to compare potency on the monsters I grew that night, I was so stoked with the growth I didn't think about anything else.

Thats interresting. If true, maby the micro air vibrations from high or low frequencies "stimulates" the mycelium or something?

I i remember correct. Mythbusters (the TV show) tested different music genres on plats during their growing cycle. And some genres proved to be more effective than others. Maby those genres had more of the frequencies that those plants liked?

This could mean that organic material can be stimulated through sonic vibrations?

Shiet, i gotta put theese theories to the test. Gonna see if i could setup 3 or 4 BRF cakes in front of speakers. And then plast them for a few hours with different frequencies

Well at a certain frequency it would be possible to vibrate cakes apart. They use ultrasound to break up stones before you piss them out now, so with the right frequency and lvl its possible to do damage.

As far as the growth in 6 hours, that could have just been timing. They can easily double in size in a matter of hours when close to mature.

I see a post on the cultivation list and assume its fairly new, NOT 15 years old.

I had a jar sitting on my bass amp while it grew. The shaking from the bass frequencies bruised the shit out of it.
