I found some Psilocybe caerulipes, but can't get a good picture...
    #24497795 - 07/21/17 01:16 AM (6 years, 8 months ago)

Hey you guys, been a minute.  Anyway, I found 4 bluing Psilocybe mushrooms during a four hour hunt in the woods of Vermont in an American beech stand. Presumably they are Psilocybe caerulipes. I have no good way to take good pictures and they are half dried at this point, and the bruising is harder to see, even if I could find a better camera. I did a spore print it came out purplish, am relatively experienced with mushroom i.d including multiple species of Psilocybe.  Just wanted to find them so I searched hard. wanted to put them on the list for Vermont. I can upload one of the shitty pictures I took with my phone if anyone wants to see them, but its blurry little brown mushrooms. I had to hunt for hours to find them, which I hope is evidence that they are not just other little brown mushrooms to you all.

On the singular one you can see the blue/green bruising on the cap if you zoom in.

These were all found directly on rotting American beech limbs in two locations.

Sorry about my self defense. This has been a several year dream of mine, because I grew up here and had figured that they grew here, except they are not on the list/have never been confirmed to grow here. Finally, I am here during the season(the very beginning of it I guess seeing how no one else has posted anything about them and the earliest posts about them are from this time of year) and put a huge effort out just to put them on that list, only to not be able to get a good photo, due to a shitty phone camera and bad lighting... I would hate to have this not considered a verified find.

I didn't get any good shots of the gills. I can take one of the largest shriveled and dry fruits if you think that might help. It would be a shitty picture though...

tbh that first photos probably the best I am gonna get at this point. I mean. I could crawl around the woods on all fours for hours over turning every single lbm on beech and birch while getting bit by dozens of bugs and scratching myself to shit for no purpose besides making sure people know that these mushrooms grow in (southern) Vermont again, but I would prefer not to...

Wouldn't surprise me if someone who's seen them in person could confirm your ID from those pics.

They look to be the right size and definitely have the characteristic blue bruising. Either way, awesome find. Tks for sharing.

Edit: they could be a bluing stropharia, we're they slimy on the cap?.

nah. I have found blue Stropharia before. In my experience they become less blue rather than more blue. The caps were pretty dry. Like they maybe had a very thin gelatinous layer, but were not slimy.

In New Hampshire I have been finding P. caerulipes for the past two seasons and I would say that you found yourself some caerulipes of course I would wait for a TI to confirm, but everything you described seems to be spot on. It's surprising to see them fruiting this early, they usually come out in late August to mid-September. Good finds!

It's definitely not far-fetched to consider the possibility of finding them in Vermont if they can be found in both New Hampshire and New York, fortunately they are not limited by geographic boundaries. It would be nice to see this elusive species added to the Vermont list.

If you don't mind me asking, were they found in northern or southern Vermont?
