EZ Straw "With Tack"?
#24496313 - 07/20/17 01:08 PM (6 years, 6 months ago) |

So I got some straw to do a few Panaeleous grows with. This time of year its hard to get bales of straw without leaving the city, I found these big bags of straw for mulch at Lowes for 8$. Its already shredded, into pretty small pieces actually 2" or less for the most part I'd say.
I know people who have used EZ straw. But I didn't notice the "With Tack" until I got home. It says it has a bonding agent that gives it a tackiness to hold it together some so wind or a heavy rain doesn't wash it away.
Anyone think that'll be a problem or had experience with this stuff? I'm gunna give it a rinse before I soak it, make use a little extra dish soap in the soak as a surfucant
Thx

I tried it once. Sticky stuff. Triched out pretty bad. Trying Standlee chopped straw next time.

Edit: I just gave a few big handfulls a little soak and it feels normal, just like chopped straw. I dunno I think it'll do fine , maybe give it an extra couple rinses

You're right about that. I'm curious to see how it works. Never tried EZ because of the tack.

I'll keep you updated. I played around with a bucket full, if I didn't read the bag I'd never know. Seems OK

Cool. I was wondering if the tack would rinse off.

I hope so, I'll give it a couple rinses and some extra dish soap in the soak. Dish soap is a surfucant, it takes off the waxy coating from the outside of the straw and let's it absorb water

I've bucket tekked this stuff with oysters. Not as cheap as a bale obviously, but it's convenient and works well. I left quite a lot of it in the bucket for a month and it didn't appear contaminated.
It is a bit sticky though. Curious if your soap idea would work. Lately I've been wondering if it would be a good substitute for coir in cube grows... You get quite a lot of it for $10 or w/e.

And the "tack" didn't cause any problems?

Not that I could tell. For all I know it's harmful, but I and several others ate the shrooms. We're all alive.
