I received my seeds in my mail today. The delivery time was great, four days within Europe. I got more than twice as many seeds as I ordered, I figure that either the vendor is kind or the vendor is aware that the seeds germinate rate is low. I've planted them all now. About 10 seeds in every pot and a total of 23 pots. 6 of them are Red Vein Thai and the remaining 17 are Rifat. I put 2 Rifat and 2 Red Vein Thai in my fogponic system and the rest in soil. My initial plan was to grow a few of them in my aeroponic system but due to lack of space I had to skip it.

I hope to have at least 2 Red Vein Thai and 5 Rifat seedlings in the end of next week.
I can finally welcome myself to the Kratom growers club. So welcome, myself!

Nice, welcome to the club! I can say from experience that you're gonna get a shit ton of Rifat seedlings in about a week, those seeds have at least 75% germ rate ime, but you'll be lucky if you get more than 5 or 6 sprouts from his Red Thai seeds.

I received a bunch of the Red Indo seeds I was talking about today, good consolation prize for the dead-on-arrival seedling (which actually seems to have survived, there's 2 tiny leaves sprouting from the otherwise naked stem, kratom's a tough plant).

Thank you!
I'm glad to hear that. I'm actually happy if I manage to get one of each strain to survive. They're going to be grown indoor their entire life, as the temperature is below 0°C in the nights from late October to April.

Some pictures of my setup.

First up, my fogponic system

Then a mini grow house with a heating pad beneath it. It should be quite moist in there  :acidcat:

And since they all couldn't fit the mini grow house, I had to put a few of them out in the open

Hell yeah, aeroponics kratom that's awesome! Really looking forward to seeing the results of that.

As soon as I can take some cuttings from my plants I will try growing a few in hydroponics. Kratom drinks so much, I think DWC would work great.

For the ones out in the open I would put them in a ziploc bag or some other kind of clear plastic bag for humidity though, at least until they sprout.

Hydroponics in general are really fun to grow in. I recently ordered three more foggers in order to make a few more fogponic systems. I've also ordered another air pump which should arrive in mid August - this is for my aeroponic system. If I get enough Mitragyna seedlings, I'll definitely do one full aeroponic. Not sure what kind of nutrition to give it though, but I'm guessing 4-18-38 with some epsom salt and magnesium should do the trick.

I took your advice and put a few bags above the ones in the open

Good luck with that man. You are gonna need to keep that kratom trimmed, lest it become a tree. Which is where i would like to be headed at some point.

Yeah a tree is where it's at, but you need the climate. I wouldn't be mad if I had to trim my kratom often though lol

Time for an update on my seeds, I think.
It's been exactly one week since I planted the seeds. I think I may have ruined a lot of them by over watering the ones in soil, the second day. The soil got too wet and even though I avoided watering them for a while, it started to give of a bit of a rotten smell. After only spraying the top of the soil ever so slightly with water a few days, I got the soil back to a better dryness and I've been watering them regularly since. I'm yet to see any sprouts. The ones in my fogponic system should have done better the first five days, until the fogger in my fogponic broke down. I noticed it after one day and replaced it as soon as I noticed. So they had almost 24 hours of dryness - which I hope they can handle. No sprouts in the fogponic either so far.
My hope is still that I'll have a few sprouts on saturday evening.

Today I can proudly declare myself a father of two newly born Mitragyna Speciosa seedlings. They were born sometime during my work hours today, approx. 8 days after being put in the soil. They are extremely tiny and they both were grown in soil. My guess was that the ones in the fogponic would germinate quicker, but I was wrong.
I'll post a picture tomorrow when they're big enough to be seen in a photograph

Hell yeah, well done Micaele!

I sent some Rifat seeds to someone I traded with, and that lucky mofo (no offense) got a three-leaved mutant!

I had this happen with cannabis a few times, I actually have one trisomic plant right now. I also had a triso Spilanthes seedling but a friggin snail ate it...

Now it's not a particularly useful mutation with those plants but with Kratom it could be amazing, 33% more leaf! Plus mutant sometimes are more potent with cannabis, maybe it's the same with Krat'...

I'm gonna try to trade him back for this seedling, I just wish I had popped this particular seed haha...

Unrelated but I topped a couple of my seedlings about 10 days ago (just cut the new leaf bud) and they branched out nicely.
The one on the 1st pic actually popped branches out of every node

My biggest Kratom has slowly been developing a problem.  It was root bound in a large tub. I just planted it into the ground in hopes that it will help the girl out.  If anyone knows what causes this please post up. I have a few speculations but trial and error diagnosis could lead to the plant dieing if done incorrectly. It's still growing but has slowed down considerably.

I have the same issue on a couple of my seedlings, it's been a while since I fed them I was guessing it's a nitrogen deficiency. Did you give it ferts recently?

Unrelated but did anyone try air-layering on kratom?
My understanding is there is quite a high loss rate when taking cuttings so I'm thinking if trying layering so that if roots don't sprout my plants remain whole.

I'm trying air layering now on kratoms, tangelos, and orange trees. Still going to wait a few more weeks before I check for roots.  Some batches of cuttings I'll have a great percentage of survivers other batches like this time of summer it's less but not a total loss by any means.  I think due to the heat if rooting outside. Spring/early summer is my best bet down here in the deep south..YMMV
Just fed the tree some iron I'll see if that's the problem 1st.  It was root bound in a 30+ gallon tub hoping going into the grounds fertile soil will help it keep on keeping on.
About to put my other trees in the 30 gallon tubs then transplant into the ground next summer.

Only one of the two seedlings managed to survive. That is from a total of ~24 pots each containing ~10 seeds. Either I got a hold of a bad batch of seeds or I did something bad to them.
However, one living seedling is better than none. But its' growth rate seems to have been stunted for the past week or so. It's now 21 days since they were put in the soil and about 14 days since this seedling popped up. It seems to be fine looking colorwise, the temperature in its surrounding is about 28°C and it's fairly moist.
Any ideas?
