Peyote is endangered and not easily acquired, and even then it's not usually mature cacti that people can acquire if you're in the states. In addition peyote is endangered, so my personal urgences are toward allowed peyote to live on and/or only harvesting and leaving the root intact. None the less after that i'd make a peyote soup and drink it instead of eating it, it would take a while to dry the buttons. If you had to you could heat them on low in the oven no more than 100 degree with the oven door open. Or use a food dehdyrator or dessicant. But usually a drink made fresh is the best way.
But, i'd say get san pedro cactus, it's cheap and easy to find and you can make peyote smoothie with it and have practically for all intent and purposes the same effect.

ok u have mixed up pedro and peyote. peyote have nto spines. please dotn kill any of those because tehre are proper ways to do it ethically if at all.
pedro or peruvian torch have spines u take the outer part off the cactus as teh middle is very barky. u dotn ahve to dry them.
read your shit dude. do a search Mj posted a good post on here about pedro preps.

IF the buttons are fresh or dried, all you need do is clean off the fuzz on the top center of the cacti.
Then eat the buttons, A quarter dried ounce is a dose.
(That could be four fresh dried buttons or as many as 6 to 12 of them dried weighing 1/4 ounce dried.
Take one half hour to eat. They are very bitter and more so when fresh than dried. and always take a half an hour to chew them and eat the,

Use gratefruit juice to alleviatee the bitter taste of the cacti.

This is for mMatt the original poster. Also, the buttons do not have to be dried to eat. If th dried they are like hard rocks and very hard to chew because they are hard like leathery hard. IT is easy to make a stew otr souppy tea of the fresh buttons or even the dried ones.
Again, I dounbt if you would be able to find peyote if you were not able to find o any info about it on the net.
Stick to San Pedro as noted above bu others and let the buttons grow for the Indians who have first rights when it comes to them.
