problems with casing
    #2448111 - 03/18/04 04:20 PM (20 years, 1 month ago)

i have gone through sever casings and they never seem to do well. I get fruit from them but not much. maybe a hand full on the first flush. Any ideas on what I may be doing wrong? Im using peatmoss, veri, and crushed oyster shells.

I have yet to have a casing that looks as good as most other people pic s look.

a couple ideas, see if any of these ring a bell....

Make sure the "fuzz" is grown in evenly before you fruit your casing. Try to keep the substrait, and casing layers even when you put together the casing. Also patch any fast growing spots in the casing layer during incubation to allow slower areas to catch up before fruiting, for an even pinn set.

Make sure the casing mixture you use can hold enough water to supply the fruits till the end of the first flush. I like the 60/40 tek.

Be sure to keep both incubation, and fruiting tmeps are constant, and even through out the container.

i didn't add any peat because i wanted to make a casing and didn't have access to a car. its just a 1.5 cm of vercim. moist but not dripping.

how often do i water...do i let it just stay for a week, only covering up the fast growth, or do i also mist daily along with that

regards john
