I bought a hydrofogger minifogger for my new fruiting room and they accidentally sent me two! I emailed customer service about it and they want me to send one back. oh well...

A few years back, I bought Panda film off Amazon and right after paying I realized the shipping address was my old apartment rather than my new one. So I immediately contacted them and asked to change the address but they said it was too late, so they'd just send me a shipment to my new apartment and "get the other one back once it arrives". The both Panda films arrived at the same time and my old roommate was never contacted or notified that they had to return it, so they gave it to me. I still have that extra Panda film to this day lol.

Here is a side-by-side of cardboard pH 5.5, and pine modified to pH 7.5.
Both materials where enriched with the same mixture and ratio.

The low pH cardboard totally flopped IMO.

Since brown card is not produced for fungus and the manufacturers undoubtedly want free preservation, guess what it contains.
You can test this simply by soaking brown card into very hot water, notice the colour of the water change to amber.

I'd also like to point out, non-elemental fungicides tend to be composed of C-H-O units, the same materials in sugar.
There is essentially two types of damage, external (direct to cells), or internal (absorbed, metabolized).

If it's digesting the material, it's either soluble, or being digested by enzymes, then absorbed.

So in theory a C-H-O based fungicide could act like too much sugar at once?

Side thought, sitting in and absorbing a very low or very pH material will deal damage or inhibit growth.

Nope, mycelium will lower the pH of the substrate over time, as in make it more acidic.
Or do you mean my reference to high pH, in which case yes you're correct.

There is still a maximum tolerance to a high pH mind.

I wonder if bio-luminescent mycelium are trying to "burn off" the acidity, they don't glow at higher pH correct?

I read briefly about ph levels affecting the brightness. Bioluminescence is a chemical reaction so optimal ph levels would provide a better environment for more reaction?

I'm curious about this too.
I have a couple wedges on the way, and am curious to how to make them glow really bright, and what they'll love to grow on.
Also thinking about keeping them in my living room, rather then my grow room so I can enjoy the bioluminescence more.

They grow on sawdust similar to oysters. Acidic environments facilitate bioluminescence and growth apparently -> https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/11520609

That's a good little read. Very interesting information. So, you would want to alter the PH of your sub to be acidic to support the grown and bioluminescence of this the mushroom then hey.

I need to find a good supplier of some good hardwood sawdust.

Just did a read, it will produce Luciferin, and then Luciferase or Photoprotein to oxidize it, more data here.

I replied to your original thread with a link. Here is more: "Omphalotus nidiformis may be confused with the edible brown oyster mushroom (Pleurotus australis)"

Based on data and experiments, it appears enriched and pH modified wood can produce a very large yield.
Since straw is either lime bathed or soaked, it's end pH is higher (up to 8.4 lime bathing).

If the end pH and enrichment value of wood was equal to straw ABE goes up.
Additionally the wood will allow for a smaller scale block, cake.

If you copy straw, additional starch is not needed.
