Really?? I've showered, in total, about three times before agar work. I don't change, I either drop the sweater or loose all clothing alltogether. Both works fine. I've even just put my sleeves up a few times.

IDK. Some people are socially awkward and you just have to explain things to them nicely. Like it's nice to hear from you sometimes man but things get busy for me and I can't always keep up with your texts. It's a lot. And if that person gets butthurt he's got issues.

People just need to chillax.
I confess I butchered my plates because my scalpel was too short and thick and the blade was too wide. I did some research on scalpels and settled for a number 7 handle and a 15c blade. It's in the mail now. I was too tired to look through all my options. Just went with the handle and 20 sterile blades for 7 bucks free shipping option.
So I'm allergic to nickel and all the inoculation loops seem to be nichrome. Does anyone have any other suggestions? Can I just use a sterile swab to swipe the spores?
I hope so growlingmycelium. Seeing that tiny little bug that managed to get on my plate sure was scary. I think it was one of those book lice bugs or something. The plastic pasty plate was a bit warped and they love fungi so prolly just came in for lunch. The rest of the jars are screw on thankfully and I used my duster and put DE all over the room.
Also that sucks having lyme lizard wizard. We have a shit ton of black legged ticks here and I'm always picking them off of me when I go bushwhacking during urbex or myco walks. Bastards freak me the fuck out. Worst day was when I pulled off 8 nymphs. Three had attached. Luckily they have to latch on for awhile first before they can give you the disease.

other options than inoculation loops: making your own from a wire, or guitar string, or whatever, that doesn't contain nickel, or indeed, use a swab.

Id say thats a bit of a presumptuous statement based on our level of... acquaintance.
Alas. I see nothing wrong in taking every precaution necessary to stop bad SAB work.
that .5% margin of error for the many many jars I do a month is enough for me to not lose the extra. Though I do respect you're obvious and clear experience over my own in all facets of the "hobby"...
I see nothing wrong with taking every precaution. Since I'm sure my technique is no where near you're own; all I was stating is likely my impatience or neglect / other negative facets of my SAB work my benefit from these precautions. I felt called out by you for attempting to minimize my efforts. Can you not see how that is demeaning in a way?
Yet you're inquiry into exp about how you do not take these precautions tell me, they are un necessary if X, or Y variable I do not understand or comply to is the actual problem not that of showering or a clean change of clothes. 10 Trusted cultivators tell me 10 different opinions of what I should and not should be doing... this is not an easy thing to transverse. Instead of shaming me, I am merely suggesting an alternative, explain to me why it is not an issue. I will listen with all diligence and attempt to recreate, record, and repeat the process based on sound evidence.
Thanks. I'm just trying to be forward and honest with you. Were a community not a high school click.

Seeing as you do many many jars a month, I'd say you have more experience than me. I've grown for a few years now and never did big scale grows, rotated some small grows for a bit, stopped growing for a while, did a lot of reading in the meantime, then started back on agar and with old ass grains again, and now I'm back at subs for a few months now, but still getting a lot of cultures (about 15 or so total I think) up n running, a lot of contamination coming from spores, and some I brought in myself too. I started out with tossing half of my plates because of poor technique, that was about 2 years ago I think. A bigger SAB, better understanding of the goings-on in it and what to watch, and what to look for in plates, and especially just doing a lot of plates with a lot of different recipes, got me to where I am now, but I'm still not doing many many jars a month. I only have a 7 qt cooker I converted to sterilizer, doesn't fit more than 5 half qt jars. I'm seriously depleted of energy right now, so leaving the grains for the good days, of wich there are few. If you calculate in that you have to see that good day coming bc of soaktime, you'll get that I only do grains about twice a month right now. Agar, I get to do plenty though I'm outta plates though, and my new shipment hasn't come in yet Used some old ones (poured 1-2 months back) that were looking totally clean for the transfers that were really necessary timewise. The others will have to wait.. Keeping my fingers crossed for delivery today....

I love them and I want to squish them. I promise next healthy giant puffball I see I'm eating. Only thing that sucks is when you squish them and a beetle comes out or they are just at the state where the insides are turning into good and yellow pus comes out of it. It's fun to step on the giant puffballs full of spores.
I confess I haven't showered in a week and I have dandruff and my hairs down and hanging over my dishes. Sometimes I get itchy and scratch under my arms and then continue working without cleaning my hands. It's just so much work. I have allergies and I sneeze a lot while I'm working. It must be all that dust in the room from not turning on my filter and cleaning. Sometimes my cat gets really upset and cries outside the door. I let her come in because I feel bad. I pick her up and I hug and pet her and kiss her. Then I put her back down and continue working.
One day when I grow up I want to be a big giant presumptuous flappy too!
