son's loss of a friend
    #2446502 - 03/18/04 10:43 AM (14 years, 1 month ago)

me back in town last night...
son picked me up at airport...
when we were home & "alone" he said he really could've used "some support" over the weekend -- & i looked at him & he was, like, torn up... a good buddy of his (kid hung out at our house several days per week, generally) had been through some shit lately & did indeed kill self saturday...
& i hugged him & hugged him & told him that's really rough, so sorry, man...(& also that i had a buddy "do it" when i was 20-something; & was just floored...)

so, what can i do?
i can tell he's still hurtin' (& i dunno about funeral stuff for his bud or anything)
maybe suggest talking to a counselor?
i dunno...
sad story...
17, 18, 19, 20-yr-olds...
too young for this kinda shit to be happening...
loss & grief...
how to heal?
time...

~

Im sorry to hear that Gnrm23 :frown:

maybe not yet..but sooner or later (I dont know if you have philosophical and spiritual talks) but if you do....
I wise man said
Quote:

2500 years ago a prince who gave up his throne to find some sort of answer to the problem of living & dying discovered (recovered? uncovered?) some "truths"...

1) all life is suffering
2) suffering is caused by clinging
3) there is a way to end the suffering of life
4) the way to end the suffering is by following the 8-fold path of the buddha
~

i'm not saying everyone must become a buddhist... (shucks, not even the dalai lama says that  ...)
but what this young prince found out about sorrow, and the ending of sorrow, is worth examining closely (imho, mmmmmmkay?)

may your pain be released
may you be released from your pain

sorry to hear about.. :frown:

I hope he feels better. The only thing that has helped me get by was time.

If I had to do it over again(with my problems) I would have faced them instead of burying them and repressing them with other things.

funeral is today...
kid was 17, still was attending north high school...

occasionally teary, y'know...
buncha his friends stopped by our house after wake - last night...
dunno what's up at the HS today but a buncha folks going to noon funeral...

(wierd - talking to my ex- & she was coping with this stuff (during the last few days) while i was outa town; she knew more of some of the stuff that was happening, but i knew other stuff --- cameron had just broken up w/girlfriend, etc... so i mentioned to ex- that there must be running through every man's head (if only for a moment), following a breakup, is wondering if "checking out" is the solution --- & she was silent for a few seconds & then said she was sorry for putting ME thru that (a few years ago) & i was able to laugh... (& i am SO glad the we managed to remain pretty much friends thru the breakup & divorce... wierd...)

~

anyways, i suppose i will "be there" for my kids & their friends, & tell 'em to, well, hang in there...

(& send some $$ next week (?) to the memorial fund in his name, from me & the ex & the kids...)

(& maybe shed a tear, i dunno...)

(god, our kids are growing up way too fast, i dunno...)

PLEASE if you ever feel things "closing in" give a shout for some help here, OK?

love/gnrmi
