So my first attempt at pasty plates led to condensation, I tried bringing the PC up to and down to pressure slowly, let it cool overnight but still, Today 3 days later I opened some unused pasty plates (still wrapped in foil with a paper towel) and noticed the paper towel wicked out the condensation. Great! Accept now I am worried about the rest of the unused pasty plates drying out before I use them if i leave the paper towel on. What do you think?

When I was doing pasty plates I almost always had condensation. It never really affected much just give it a flick around the sides to gather all the droplets and you should be able to see inside with no issues

In my mind condensationgathered on the media when I am germinating spores from questionable print in my mind means one more contam factor. And by that I mean two pieces of paper folded unevenly together with spores rubbing off into the little baggy.

I just made pasty plates with half pint ball jars I got lucky enough to find at my grocers. If you let them sit for a day the agar seems to reabsorb any extra moisture and the condensation goes away unlike the plastic. I really love the larger surface area too. uses up a shit ton of agar but it's cheap enough.

Went to a local Asian market and got this

Which would be the best to use???
Also I have no scales, except for a jewelry balance scale that weighs in grains, pennyweights' and troy ounces, I can use a conversion table but I'm not sure of the accuracy.
So I've got two packs of 25g agar-agar powder.
And two .35 oz blocks of agar-agar with yellow dye added. Which would be best? It's s my first time using agar

I gotta look for those yellow bars of agar. that's cheap as fuck. My telephone brand agar here is like 2.99 a pack. I may go to the bigger market to look for it since bigger markets have more selection.

Take one of the 25g packets split it up into 5 piles as best as you can and use two of them for 10g to make 400-500ml of agar

I have been using the yellow.  Its really  hard to see the mycelium on it.  If you use it, I would still add food coloring

I have a pretty nice milligram scale for getting precise but I usually use my gram scale that I use for weed. I got the other one back when I had some DMT but haven't had a need for it lately.

I just realized on my last post tho that this is easy agar so he probably doesn't need to divide it up

Man I had no idea where to even go in the store,
There was an Asian male whom id talked to on the phone earlier, when asking if they had agar-agar,
First he showed me the packets and said "this really good, and its clear, little goes a long way" then took me to to an isle where they had the yellow and green bars, after reading this tek further I see I should've got green , but I had no fucking clue.
Dude kept telling me the pack was better, but I thought I needed the bar, so to make him happy I took two of each.
On the way up to the counter, he asked what I wanted this for. I crawfished and said it was for a recipe I had cooking as a gelatin substitute. Anyway as far as the price, I got that in Fort Smith Ar.

Personally I like the packets the best. The clarity is nice with a light behind it

I feel like I need a lot less food dye next time I make my plates. Also the potato flakes cloud it a bit. I was thinking of trying potato starch and switching out the corn syrup for molasses. Any opinions on this? I've asked before and no ones had any opinions. I think I may just go out and do it since It makes sense as food. I've read of great success with molasses in spore slurries.

I don't think it matters.  I used a dash of maple syrup before

I think there's something about the minerals in molasses. I'm trying to figure out if mushies do or don't like sulphured molasses at the moment. Anyways I'm going to try it.

Found this really old but super cool article I thought you guys might like. http://jb.asm.org/content/27/4/349.full.pdf

I have had 3 different batches of agar go bacterial at day 4 after pcing them.  Really frustrating me to no end. Whats strange is i had done about 5 rounds before this and had great results.

I'm not an expert with my pc by any means but i was getting perfect agar using an inch of water, letting it steam for 10 minutes at low/medium heat and then adding the 15 lb wight for 30 minutes. I used the recipe here to a tea(spoon).

I tried again last night, letting it heat up very slowly (25 minutes.) Then raising the heat to medium high. I let it steam for 10 minutes, and then added the 15 lb weight. I reduced the heat to medium for thr 45 minutes.

This last batch's paper towels are half damp and a handful have wet micro pore tape. They all have aluminum foil coverings. I had them raised on 2 ceramic plates and the trellis.  3 quarts of water.

I had them about 3.5 inches off the bottom of the trellis.

Can anybody tell me how to bring the heat up to avoid splashing yet hot enough to sterilize the agar and grain jars?

I'm no expert but I used a coffee mug filled half way with water to put room in between my two trivets. This left enough space to keep it from getting too wet. You may need two mugs to balance it if you have a large pressure cooker and glass jars. Make sure the holes are over the mug so it can vent. I bet you could use wide mouth jars filled with water but the mugs work for me.  Sometimes the tape get's wet and it's still not perfect for me. The first time I was stupid and it cooled too rapidly and all my dishes imploded.
