Has anyone had any bad experiences with SporeWorks?
My grandfather ordered a spore syringe over 3 weeks ago, and after about a week and a half, he emailed them and asked what was up. They said that the ordered item was backordered(thanks for the notification). So they said they would ship a substitute strand and that it was shipped via airmail - that was over a week and a half ago....He's quite irate

I'd always had good luck with Sporeworks in the past, but lately, I've gotten several bad syringes from them. I don't know what's up with them, but try:
Ralphsters http://www.ralphstersspores.com/
Hawks Eye http://www.thehawkseye.com/
Both are good.

I'd suggest trying to contact them again and try to resolve the situation. Sporeworks has been a great vendor here, and I'm sure there's some sort of mix-up. If there's still a problem after that, them maybe try another vendor.

Standard Air-Mail shipping for our international customers doesn't offer any sort of tracking method. To get a trackable means for shipping internationally customers would have to pay 2 or sometimes 3 times the shipping costs to use UPS Standard or Worldwide services.
Typically Air-Mail orders take about 10-21 days to arrive from the time of shipment, depending on the development of your countries Postal System. Canada and most Western EU countries will have their orders the quickest, while many South American and Eastern EU countries can take up to a month to arrive.
This is also assuming that your package is not lost in transit or held up in customs.
If it has been more than say 2 weeks since you received notice that your international order was shipped then shoot an email to our customer service and we'll investigate for you. In cases of lost packages or customs hold-ups we will usually just reship ASAP.

I ordered ethnobotanicals from 2 diff. suppliers. 1 charged $4.95 for Int. Postage (US to Japan) and I rec'd a tracking # several hours after the order. The other charged $10 postage and I didn't receive my order for 3 weeks (no tracking number provided).
Needless to say, I was far more impressed by the service of the 1st company (not only will I use them again... I have also told everyone else about them).
We are often an impatient bunch... and its surely better for you to have us checking the USPS website evry 15 seconds than sending you 300 emails a day...
Even if it nibbles into the profit margin, I have noticed than vendors with speedy delivery receive FAR more positive publicity than those with superior product... (check out ratings for vendors and folks with multiple high trade ratings... We just LOVE it when our stuff comes FAST!)

I believe this to be true, but who were the shipping companies? USPS, FedEx, DHL, UPS??? Also, different companies have different shipping costs and methods. So comparing two companies that simply sell the same items may not be a very good example.
For international orders, the USPS is the cheapest but they don't offer tracking numbers
The other companies do but as psilocyber stated, you'll pay A LOT more for shipping.
Any vendor will ship using any carrier, but most use the USPS by default since its the cheapest. I'm sure if you asked for a tracking number, another carrier would be used. You'd just need to state that before placing the order.

My order was sent through USPS (Global Priority Mail) for $4.95 and a tracking number was provided without my asking.
This was definately sent USPS (I just checked the website as I thought, after the last post, I might have been confused between UPS & USPS) and they do provide tracking numbers...

Global EMS is a good service, though it is incredibly difficult to code rate tables to match the shipping fees as they can very a GREAT deal based on weight and destination country.
We find that air-mail is usually VERY reliable and offers a good cost savings to our customers.
SporeWorks and our related businesses take the positition that what you pay for shipping, is what you pay for shipping. We price our product at it's fair market value and then allow the customer to pay the full shipping costs based on method selected. We don't make products cheaper and then charge large amounts for shipping, or vice versa, make the products more expensive and charge less for shipping.
There is nothing more frustrating than finding a good deal on a product on a site like Ebay only to find that the seller wants $25 to ship something simple and light via ground transportation.
However, with this said we are going to be doing a major e-commerce system update over the next month or two and as a result we'll be offering some new delivery services, such as UPS Worldwide Expediated and UPS Standard (to Canada). We'll also have the ability to more accurately guage international postage for Mail service so it will allow options like EMS and express where available.
You have to remember that many of the ethnobotical suppliers and mycological suppliers are considered "small" shippers by most carriers. Many of the major online retailers have special arrangements with major carriers that offer them speciel services not available to lower teir customers (like ourselves).
Take care and we appreciate your feedback! It helps us grow to meet the demands of our customers!
