And you think I'm specifically talking about you and Adden. You think I'm talking about some favored opinion vs another. I'm not. I just want us to stop being sniveling assholes and being butthurt or trying to butthurt others for beliefs that only somewhat touch our world.. It's frankly retarded.

I also believe I have three of many spirit guardians; beauty, a stone golem, and a champion of the sea. I meditate often and also on psychedelics, and I embrace these symbols as different facets or foils to my personality and general well-being

I went on a pilgrimage two years in a row with minimal supplies and hiked/camped up and down the WA/OR coastlines and mountains. It was beautiful. I needed the time to myself and it was always something I wanted to do. By my second year, I didn't need many supplies just fire, knife, cord, water jug. I had very many spiritual experiences up in the mountains and by the sea, mushrooms or no mushrooms.
The time away and being outside helped me get off opiates. The second year I was still sober and it was great positive reinforcement. This journey was the first of many steps I've taken to help myself both physically and mentally, and I met some friends.
Hate all you want. I had a blast and met some spirit guardians along the way.

i was just thinking about that myself. people being more civil and being able to accept that people have radically differing opinions (and might even say something distasteful, everyone once and awhile), and we might still be able to work through our differences to have more palatable and worthwhile discussions on things.
but people don't want to do that, generally speaking...yes...Christians are definitely included. and i think this thread shows that. you don't think i think about this shit? i hope not. i don't just go around bashing christians all day. i've talked to christians on here (see: kmT) and we've had great and palatable and civil back and forth's, questioning eachother's beliefs. too bad that can't quite be achieved so often, with most other's (it's rare).
well, i was even thinking of making a commentary on this very idea myself, i was just thinking for the past half hour about the content of such a commentary...bet you wouldn't have guessed that (maybe?, i dunno, i'm just saying words here, trying to communicate.)
but yeah, as a side note: if other religions proselytize, then the irreligious or anti-religious should also.

There's a higher power governing the universe and it's got a bad sense of humor. I went to bat for this guy a few years ago when they were going to permaban him. Worse yet, I did the same for akira. This is what I get.

Care to explain how that is logical whatsoever?
You could argue we are too open minded perhaps. I don't see how being open to the possibility there is or isn't a higher power is close minded.
On the other hand saying there certainly is or isn't when we have no real solid evidence of either is definitely close minded.
Putting other people down for their personal beliefs is also very close minded without any doubt, and a dick move to say the least...

sure. he think's you're closed minded to logic and rationality.
yes, these specific terms have specific denotations of meaning.

nope. it's called being rational. maybe you might wanna call Webster's up, and have them consider removing it from their dictionary.

he's maybe taking his comments into a little too personal of territory by assessing things as "retarded"- but then again, it's hard to voice rationality in a sea of "it seems closed-minded to think there can't be something beyond us" (that's why they have the Rationalist School in India, for example)...i mean isn't constantly being told that that's the case, and then being unable to be heard espousing elsewise, might'n that be a tad like calling him closed minded, in and of itself? i would think that that could probably get aggravating. it's also kind of a put down when you can't reason with that illogicality, and yet you're told you're the one who is closed-minded...when really you just want to be taken into account like everyone else (regarding the sharing of beliefs) but can't with his beliefs already having been given the poison the well treatment.

I'm sorry that my much needed long term vacations were taken, and that I enjoyed them in one of the most beautiful parts of the world, had a great time, went camping for the first time in 15 years, hiked about the trails and enjoyed nature's company, conquered a drug addiction, went back and did it all again on hard mode, and had many great times during my travels. It has apparently deeply affected you and hurt you so deeply I feel obligated to apologize.

millzy said: if we're going to reduce religious fundamentalists and staunch atheists to their most radicalized components, then we're really just looking at two flavors of the same brand of ignorance. both groups have found a way to express certainty over matters of faith. that is, one group is as certain that god exists that the other is not. it seems fair to say that both groups are equally arrogant from that point of view.
the missing component here, to me at least, is true philosophy, which can easily show us that faith and reason are complimentary.
are u certain of this?..
