http://www.nintendo.com/super-nes-classic

I've been wanting nintendo, atari, and sega to relaunch their old school consoles for a while now. I don't like that it's so tiny though.
nvm... I dunno.

It's also a limited release. They did the same thing with the NES and cancelled it months after it released. Not because it wasn't selling... but because nintendo apparently cannot make sound business decisions anymore.

It's beautiful. As a Nintenfag I would much prefer this than the Sega remodel. A lot of good titles here, hours worth of gameplay. My favorites are def starfox, DKC, FF, and Zelda ofc.

Meh. I don't like that it looks like a toy version of the SNES. I imagine it would be too tempting to pick that little thing up and chuck it in a heated rage.

I'd also rather they sell waaay more of them than they did for the NES. Those are being sold on ebay for like 30 bucks. But since there have already been dozens of Nintendo knockoffs you're safer trying to buy an actual Nintendo.

the best nintendo games are available via software emulation

this thing they're putting out is actually very high tech
it emulates each SNES game independent from each other so every game has it's own emulator
also the grahpics card has to have an fx chip to even play star fox
if they used the wii gpu again in the SNES maybe they could do something

Star fox 2 is going to be nuts it's going to have missions and  you just go level by level instead of the huge map like in star fox 1

Buy a Raspberry Pi 3, a case, and some USB controllers for like $50 total and install RetroPie on it and you can play roms for NES, SNES, N64, and PS1 and a bunch of other systems on it.

Yeah but the SNES and retro nintendo controllers blow the socks off of third party controllers

There are usb adapters for the original snes controller that work. Also you do not need RetroPie, you can just use RetroArch with any libretro core.

The only good thing coming out of this is that someone is going to find out how to rip that star fox 2 rom and then we can play it with a real emulator!

That's another reason why I don't understand they didn't just make a full sized SNES. People want it for the nostalgic aspect. Anyone with a PC can buy a usb SNES controller can download and play these games. And monitors are about the size of TVs these days, and can be mounted just as easily. For that matter you can project to a modern TV too.

Maybe that's why they're making it so limited. Because they know it would lose alot of its appeal after a year or 2.

BUT are the damn cords on the controllers going to be longer the n12 fucking inches?  The NES classic had insane short cables, like crazy crazy crazy short cables.

I'll prob buy one this time around because the games on it are literally a list of my favorites from back then, and it will be fun for my kids/other kids that come over,  but not if the damn controller cords are insanely short again.

NO

I've read that before though. Still don't see the point in having this little thing with 21 games for 80 bucks. It's lacking a good chunk of my favorites personally.

I mean... I'd be down to try it. But the limited availability I probably wouldn't be trying it. Ever.

Do you have a 3ds?

You can play Mario and Luigi super star saga 3ds remake in a few months

if not get a SNES classic and play Mario RPG or Secret of mana

Illusion of Gaia is one of the best games from that gen but it's not on there
so is seiken destnu 3 but that's on switch in japan

it's worth it for the controls
especially with games like contra 3 and super ghouls and ghost
i actually prefer Micky's magical kingdom to super ghouls and ghost

I'm surprised Stunt Racing FX isn't on there, for it to be running star fox and no other fx games
i think secret of mana uses Mode 7 not FX

Yeah that was so stupid what they did with the NES mini. I'm sure it would have taken up so much of their "focus" to just keep cranking out a product people were already buying. At least this time there's advance warning.

I have a usb to 2x PS2 controller adapter that was a few bucks on amazon. I like playstation controllers for NES/SNES emulation, they're basically SNES controllers with a few improvements.

these crap nintindo retros convinced me to softmod the original xbox i had in my closet.  now it has everything from atari 2100 to ps1.  and original xbox can be purchased for 50 and the tolls to soft mod it cost 10.  of course you can do the same thing with a rasberry pi for even cheaper and probably better quality on the ps1 and n64 emulators.

Raspberry Pi all the way. Just built my first one and it's so butter smooth and convenient. All for a few hours of my time and around $100

I emulate but there is just something off with usb.  The responsiveness is just not as bang on as it should be with button presses....its very noticeable playing Mario  world games

To me the coolest part is re-rendered games, this is what people buy $300 upscaler units for.  Emulators stretch it out "okay", and you can use filters...

I just wish it had more games.  I'm happy they included Earthbound, but Chrono Trigger was one of the prettier looking titles. There's a lot more unreleased gems too.
