As I sit here, completely satisfied with myself, my meal, and my evening I ponder sharing a recipe with you, and I've just now come to the conculsion that I will indeed spread the good recipe.
Recipe For Gramma Funky's Ale Soaked Tomatoe Weed Mussels (please use your own judgement and taste's when preparing, this is more of a guidline than an actual recipe)
-Mussels,De-bearded.. -Crushed Canned tomatoes (one can) -Garlic, the more the better -Red onion -Organicly grown MJ leaves -Red Ale of your choice -H2O(not too much, just to help with the consistancy of the sauce)
1.Heat the crushed tomatoes with about a half a cup of Ale, season with salf/pepper 2.chop garlic, onions,MJ leaves,Cilantro is good too...add those let simmer 3.This is when i put my bread in the oven. 4.Start debearding mussels, when down keep either on ice, or in cold cold water 5.finish up any side dishes. 6.add mussles to your pot of tomatoe/ale/spices/herbs 7.bring to a rolling boil, remove from heat 8.by this time the mussles should all or most of them should be open (dont eat unopen ones, throw them away) 9.let cool abit, take out your bread, crack a nice cold beer, and dig in.... 10.dipping the bread in the sauce is a must...
Hope you all enjoy

i find they taste like whatever you cook them with...they don't have that 'seafood' taste some people don't like..and there texture is firmer that of an oyster I'd say...

I have had mussels prepared that way. It is very tasty. Here is a suggestion: Get some of those big loaves of French bread at the supermarket, and dip 'em in the sauce.
I also use the shells to drink the sauce because it is so good. You can also pour the sauce and the mussels on pasta.

i did bake bread with it..and it was a french loaf.. You'd use a white wine to make the sauce, if you were to use wine, the first 3-4 times i prepared mussels at home was with white wine...but i much prefer the sauce i posted over it...

Two simple mussels recipes:
1. Mussell Tom yum.
Ingredients: half a kilo of mussells, New Zealand green-lips preferred. handfull of coriander 2/3 red chillis or two tablespoons of chili sauce tablespoon of tamarind paste teaspoon of galangal or ginger sesame oil 1 can of shreaded tomatoes 2/3 tablespoons of lemon grass shreaded OR a squeezed ful lemon. Lots of water.
The good thing about this recipe is that the mussells take over from the shrimp paste usually used in Tom Yum recipes.
actions:
1. bring a pot with all the ingrediants bar the coriander and mussells to a brisk boil. 2. add the mussells - debearded - to the water and simply boil. 3.once the mussells have opened, add the coriander - discard all mussells that havent opened.
