I just did the same thing with the glass jars. This is my first time using agar it looked kind of thick I hope it will still be good, it should be I followed this tek all except the plastic mini rounds which I could not find.
I multiply the recipe times three but add at least another half cup of water. So like 2 or more cups of water and like 7 grams of ground fresh agar. Otherwise mine comes out super thick too perhaps because it's the food grade stuff. I get it just about warm maple syrup texture when it's hot. Add a smidge more water to it and it turns out just fine. Really as long as it stays gelatinous and doesn't run it works fine. The potato and dextrose are the main nutrient source here. The agar is just a firm vehicle to hold them. I'm making some clones tonight myself! Easier than I though and is faster and muchhhh more reliable than ms to grain. Good luck

Is Karo Light Corn Syrup OK? Asking as it has salt and vanilla listed in the ingredients...

I've heard karo mentioned a lot, being karo "light" I can't say for sure. Since you only use a drop or two I think it would be fine. I'm just a newbie tho. You can go without the karo too if you just want to get plates done, maybe add a little karo light to a few plates, Iike add it near the end and just warm it up again to melt the little bit of karo and compare the plates to see the growth difference. I doubt salt would hurt, there must be some in the potatoes flakes I use.

It will be fine in small amounts. Really the simple sugar is just to help encourage leap off and the real nutrition is in the more complex sugars.

Or just use the real cheap ghetto honey which is pretty much honey mixed with corn syrup. Yeah they can do that legally here and not tell you. That's why I use raw honey along with it's other benefits for my own personal consumption.

Any thoughts on keeping the foil and/or the paper towels on the plates after removing them from the pressure cooker? I have a double layer of micropore tape on them. Assume that should be enough to keep them clean / sterile until use, so long as I wipe them down with alcohol before opening them in my SAB?

they should be fine either way. sanitizers won't save you in the end, I like to keep the foil on until I use them. I consider under the foil effectively sterile. the micropore will keep anything out but it's nice to have a little peace of mind

So I'm having some issues with this tek. I halved the agar, tato flakes, and water cause I never use the full 8 plates before they dry out, but I haven't gotten good results since doing this.
I'm going MS syringe to agar, syringes are maybe a lil over a year old stored in the fridge. The recipe I used was basically 1 tbs agar, 1 tsp tato, drop of karo, dye, some fish antibiotic. Never had issues at the full recipe, but haven't gotten these things to germinate.
Could it be something in the agar, like too much sugar, that's stifling growth? Or is it more likely my syringes are past their shelf life(I've read they can last years)?

are you still using a half cup of water??? if so it's your nutes are too low. it could also just be stubborn spores. they do last years but the longer they sit the less they like to germinate. I would save the antibiotic for transfer plates. there's power in numbers. the more plates you do the more chances you have at success

1/4 c water I'm pretty sure...I have some fresh spores that just came in I'll try and a print but it always worked out fairly quickly before, which is why I'm wondering if I screwed up the ratios somehow.

Might just be spore age. I've got some Aussie that just started germinating after 8 days. The ATL7 that was done the same day has 0 signs of growth. Could be the nutes tho. Have you tried grain water agar? I have the best luck with that personally.

Maybe...I actually found some dehydrated PDA and MEA for about the same price I was paying for plain agar agar, so I just went ahead and ordered those.
Between the newly acquired spores and agar mediums, I should be able to determine if it's the syringes or my pasty plates that are the issue.

I use this recipe but add an additional half cup or more of water when I triple the recipe. I use 2 whole cups at least when tripling it. I also use a bit more than a drop of syrup. It could be that your nutes are low but I've never had any dry out before. Perhaps your water content is too low?

No. Those are like 1 use containers and the lids will fall off. Just get some of these. https://www.walmart.com/ip/Glad-Food-Storage-Containers-Mini-Round-4-Ounce-8-Count-BPA-Free/14894228
Or if you want to pay a little more for the FORCE to be with you you can get these. https://www.walmart.com/ip/Glad-Disney-Star-Wars-Mini-Round-Containers-Lids-6-count/52209818
I may just buy those someday because the idea of growing agar out of them amuses me.
I wouldn't waste your money on any container you can't inspect visually yourself or you might and up getting junk you can't return when you could have spent the extra dollar for the sure thing.

the ones with decals on them are often harder to see through. it would be cool to see a cake in one though

Damn, they looked like a great value, about half the price of the Glad brand, and I liked the depth too.
I have like 16+ mini rounds but I've managed to lose all but 8 of the lids.
