I pressure cooked grain spawn but I didn't do any lid modification. Did I just waste the last 5 hours and have to do this again? I used the completely original, unmodified Ball quart wide-mouth lid... :'(

It's fine, the grain will still be sterilized. When you open them in your SAB they will suck in air, so be careful. Some folks here use unmodded lids. You can mod some lids and sterilize them, then replace them while you inoculate also.

I have two extra jars that I didn't use. I'm kind concrete and dense and dumb so I am asking so I understand 100%:
https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/22767847
Buy these lids
Pressure cook them Screw them on my jars
Done?
Alternatively:
Drill holes in my current lids one-or-two at a time Do polyfill tek (https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/24125953 ) Place ONLY the lids in the PC and cook for 45 min (?) at 15 psi?
If the first tek works, and I'm sorry for asking such a silly question, that simplifies a lot of my life

All of my lids are modded, but I trust the words of pasty that umodified works just as well. I would suggest to use synthetic filter disc's instead of polyfil though if you go mod.

Hi bod,
First off, your TEKs and posts have helped me so much, so thanks.
Have you had any natalensis grows? What's your take on their notorious overlay? I have a shoebox going and the overlay blobs are covering 80% of the surface.
Should I stick to neglect tek all the way and restart from spores until I get better genetics?
What are some things I can do to encourage pinning in my current shoebox?
FYI I have searched and scoured the natalensis megathread but no definite answer. Some say increase FAE, some say genetics. I'd like to know your view.
Thanks

I just wanted to take a quick second to thank everyone thatβs posted such amazing info without me having to continuously scour the net with a ton of searches. I appreciate you all!
Now I just have to get all of my stuff together and get it going. Hopefully Iβll eventually be one of you mushroom growing gurus. For now, fingers crossed!

Bodi, If you see this Id like to thank you for all your info,It changed the way I see things. So simply put.I teach culinary the same way you explain mushrooms.I try to take the fear away from topics that could easily be taught to people.I tell people to master the basics, Then spend the rest of your life learning how to break the rules, that's what separates the great ones from the ordinary.

"Warm temperatures encourage contaminants, so room temperature is encouraged".
OK, what do I do if I live in a place with a hot climate? Where I am temperatures can go all the way up to 86F in the house.
I am talking about lowering temperatures both for colonization and fruiting stages.
I can't afford to be running the AC 24/7.
If anybody has any tested solutions, please share, since I am not able to find any solutions on this topic.

I would think that PF Tek would be less contamination prone. More resilient in the heat. I also think that you could do bulk grains. If your spawn is truly axenic youβre fine.

What solutions are you looking for? The obvious answer is if you want to lower temperatures, you need an air conditioner (or a bastardized version of one).
I'd say just run the AC as much as you can afford and deal with it. Growing in the mid 80s isn't the end of the world. It definitely can be done. It just makes getting contamination easier.

Would making one of those homemade cooler a/cup devices work? I think you just modify a cooler, dump it full of ice and add a fan and vent.

Ok. Is it just a cooler full of ice? I am not sure what the fan will do here.

I am looking for a solution that would be the equivalent of an aquarium heater for an incubator, but for cooling.
Just run the air condition sounds like "Just keep the central heating running as much as you can afford".
There should be something more affordable like the incubator.
Am I the only one here who have this problem?

You make two holes in the top cooler, add a way for a fan to blow air into one hole, air passes over ice and out the other hole. Could use a small vent or piece of duct to direct air flow.
-------------------- Yeah, yeah.

You aren't. The issue is there isn't really a way to practically do this, which is why you cant find anything. You either use an AC, or you use one of the ghetto DIY ACs, thus the "bastardized AC".
By that, I mean stuff like a cooler full of ice with a fan running. It'll work to cool down a small area. But you will be replacing the ice 24/7 if you want to keep it cool. Doesn't seem practical. Plus, the electricity you use to make that ice and run the fan is something to consider.
There are ways to cool down an area temporarily, but if you find something that doesn't require constant maintenance (or money) to keep cooling, please let me know.
You can grow fine up to around 104 degrees when mycelium starts actually dying. Mushrooms wouldn't grow out in the wild if they couldn't handle a wide range of temperatures. Guess what else grows better the hotter it gets though? Bacteria. That's why it is recommended to keep it on the cooler side, to give it the best chance.
Use clean spawn and proper aseptic procedures to give yourself the best chance when growing under non ideal conditions.
