Thanks Greg. It is definitely LC. I have grown P. Cyanenses here in Alaska outdoors with great success, but I got the semperviva LC because I want to try something I read about on the Mycotopia forums. Have you heard of myceliated grain tek? Supposedly the semperviva and one other strain that I don't remember right now, can be used to create myceliated grain that can be consumed and get the same effects as eating the mushroom without actually growing them.
The thread did not explain how to start the grain, so I was looking for info on that. For some reason I am not yet allowed to post on thier forums so I came here for help.

I've definitely heard of the idea before.
Last I recall seeing it discussed on this forum it was decided that the concentration of active compounds is pretty low and also eating spawn is just kinda yucky.
I wouldn't recommend it.

Have you heard of stone producing species?
Ps. tampanensis and Ps. mexicana are two examples.
Essentially, grain and substrate that has been colonized with these species will eventually produce hard masses of mycelium, aka sclerotia / stones, which contain meaningful amounts of active compounds vs regular mycelium.

Here's an active thread about these species: https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/22527453/fpart/596/vc/1

Greetings,

Anyone have any idea why I'm getting good flushes number wise, but with these short yet fully developed mushrooms?

I'm using a martha (testing different grow besides monotub), and my other bins seem to be doing well.  The pictured one is on the top shelf.  I have a HoH humidifier, 3disc, sending in humidity from top for 8-10 minutes per hour.  The fan then stays on for an additional 5-10 minutes. Cycle repeats hourly. 12/12 lighting. Humidity right around 88-93% and temp is 70-74 deg.

Quite annoying.

Thank you.

You are a true bodhisattva, man.Haven't done grown in about 20 years. Only ever knew about the PF-TEK. About to start again. Spores on the way, head full of ideas thanks to you. I love your style.  Precision and simplicity.

Bod, if you see this, my plan is this:
Starting from scratch with MS, it seems overambitious to start with spores on agar, apart from trying to ensure clean mycelium, since I don't know what strains will be propagating from it. I will have a few varieties to play with, so my plan is to just spray and pray, I'll do cakes to bulk with shoeboxes, and maybe spores to grain to bulk, and then see what comes out of it.  From there, I plan to select some samples for prints and then go to agar.  Do you think that's a good plan?  I'm just wondering how to select the right ones for prints, since I won't know the quality until I try it, and then it's gone and can't be used for prints. It seems like it will be a lot of trial and error in the beginning to get some stable stock going. Thoughts?

Please start with agar! Would be ashamed to have shit contaminate and not have any backups ready to go. I know it seems like a lot of extra work but I promise you that starting out with Agar is worth it!

I'm not intimidated by agar or put off by the extra work. In fact, I find it interesting and I'm looking forward to it. I just question the benefit of it on the first go-around when starting with a syringe. I'm not worried about blowing my load in one shot with no backup. I ordered several. If I'm understanding correctly, the strains that will form from these syringes are a crapshoot, anyway. So why not just shoot em and see what blooms and start with agar on the 2nd round using prints from the 1st crop. I'm probably mistaken in my thinking since I'm a virtual noob (a few successful PF-TEKs back in the late 90s->early 2k). Haven't done shit with this stuff in almost 20 years, ingesting (until 2 months ago) or growing. I will take your suggestion under advisement. Thank you. You got me thinking again lol. I got time since I'm still waiting on the spores...

A great way to start is to use your MS in some PF cakes so you can get fruits to clone straight to agar :mushroom2:

Thank you, that is pretty much what I was thinking. Since I'll have several varieties of MSS I was thinking some straight up cakes in SGFC and some cakes grated into shoeboxes or small tubs with coir. My idea is using volume and variety as like a "shotgun" method where some are bound to hit the target and fruit. Those little guys will then be the start of my adventures with agar. Can't wait to fail and learn from it lol.

So you think I should clone from that 1st crop as opposed to spore prints? Or maybe both?

Start PF from your prints. Use up to half the syringe on the first batch and try to get fruits to clone to agar, for LI on the next batch. Keep the half syringe as backup.

If you want to be extra safe, take spores to agar before even making a syringe!

Please forgive my ignorance here. I'm still learning the nomenclature. The glossary could use some serious updating in regards to acronyms, btw. By PF do you mean the PK-TEK? Because I don't have prints to start with. Maybe I'm misunderstanding?

Does the glossary say PK tek?? That's really bad lol

I've thought it could use some updating too. The acronyms list is missing some things like MPT (micropore tape)

Oh no my bad, that was my mistype. I meant, do you mean PF-TEK? Because I only have syringes so I can't start with prints.

But yeah, it DOES need updating by an admin or someone when they get some time! I'm not complaining but I spend a good percentage of my research time on here going go the glossary, seeing that the OPs acronym isn't listed, then sitting there in my mind with the limited knowledge I've obtained so far trying to figure out what the hell they meant lol. I suppose I could plug it in to the forum search in hopes to find it along with its definition.

Yeah PF tek. Don't worry, you'll learn via context alone, eventually.
