Getting started again after a failed attempt a few years ago. Planning to start with UBtek and some tubs. Getting ready to order.
Should I get a mystery 6 pack? Or just pick 2 syringes?

First post on the Shroomery, stoked. Currently have a couple different grows going, different sized jars, all pf-tek with cakes around 1/2 pint in size. Planning on doing some in a SGFC, some in-vitro, and the others I will be shredding, mixing with coir, and placing in shoeboxes (shoutout to Munchauzen for inspiring me to try shoebox tek). I have also got some liquid cultures going which I am scared about. I made them using a somewhat sketchy tek as I am yet to own a pressure cooker. Went ahead and bought some pre-poured, pre-sterilised agar plates to try and get some clean cultures going from these haphazard liquid culture jars, should be fun. Anyway, I have quite a few shrooms on their way (fingers crossed I don't screw them ALL up). I am not only excited to indulge in the glory of feeling like I am the Escobar of ethnobotany with my few jars full of dried out mushrooms. I am also keen to eat some. Also, I'd like to keep this process going and expand upon my current capabilities. I have read the forums and scoured the best of sources (I think). My plan is - I need to buy a fucking pressure cooker. I want to save spore prints for all of my strains and take clone samples from my best mushrooms. I want to then make my own agar and learn how to grow a healthy culture on it. I want to also learn a bit of liquid culture while I am at it (maybe). What I would like to know more clearly is the ideal grow cycle for basic mushroom cultivation. Right now I have a plan, I would love to hear any thoughts on it and any suggestions for improvements. I want to clone-to-agar. I want to then do a PastyWhyte tik-tak-toe tek to inoculate a master grain spawn jar with this agar. I will then use this jar to do g2g transfers into about 10 other jars. (Is this the best method? I will be using a SAB as I don't have a flowhood. Would it be better to do individual agar drops in each jar? Or perhaps use liquid culture instead? Would I then need to make special jar lids or would it be fine to open the lid and squirt the liquid culture in them that way?). After my jars all inoculate, I plan on using rye as the grain of choice, I will then mix them with coir in shoeboxes and monotubs using the methods Munchauzen portrays in his vids. Keen to improve my game some day soon. Cheers everyone!

Man I've been lurking on here since 2009 growing cubes. I started with the PF tek with a glove box and had a lot of success, but then somewhere along the way you get the itch to grow bulk! So here I am now running 48(ish) monotubs on racks doing sterile work with a flowhood - Grain to grain in bags then open air spawning to coir/verm and it's a daily/weekly/monthly routine - for life! (At least I hope so) I'm dipping my toes in the waters of pans, woodlovers, & edibles this year. (Wish I would have gotten into them sooner!) So keep pushing yourself and never give up! In the end they grow you!
One of my favorite Mitch quotes, RIP. Question did you ever grow in jars and did they work out?

Hey Bod,
Been using your oats prep tek and PC rocker mod to get to 17-18psi @ sea level in a presto. In previous years @ 15psi, no issues when using race horse oats with your oat tek. However, was forced to switch oats brand and @ 2hr cook times with the rocker mod, the oats were coming out looking less swollen and overcooked/burned (turned chocolate brown colored). Tried dropping to 1.5hr, but same thing. Grain colonization in both cases was inferior to previous years with race horse oats @ 15psi.
Do you think the issue is the oats or just overcooking? If overcooking, would dropping to 1hr @ 17-18psi be a solution?

This is a very helpful tip. I just dived into this a few weeks ago after my first two week “trial” of micro-dosing. Seems rewarding to grow own supply of medicine. I will bookmark this. Thanks.

Thank you, that was immensely helpful! First time posting here... when the mushrooms are growing, is there a lid over the top of them? I wasn't able to tell from your pictures. I have definitely seen them covered, and that'd make sense with contaminants, but I wasted to ask. Very much a newb here...

I've started a BRF-Tec which is right at mycelium completion now. I have to either do your zip lock bag tec or SGFC tec.
I think I'm going to go with SGFC just because though more complex, it looks like it's got a better chance of growing more mushrooms. Keeping them in the jar keeps mushrooms from growing off the sides - yes?
For the SGFC I have to drill hundreds of holes in the SGFC.
Once I've got this working I'd like to switch to a modified mono-tub and oats. I like your unmodified mono-tub tec but already made a 6 hole (2" each) tub based on a flawed youtube vid. I intend to use that for my SGFC.
My question to you is: Can I use the SGFC that I make for this project, with hundreds of 1/4" holes plus 6 2" holes (with poly-fil) as a monotub for growing bulk with oats in coco-coir like your unmodified mono-tub tec?
Also, I've found a great source for a 50 lb bag of verm which I bought so I'd like to mix coco-coir & verm if that's OK. Would that work?

Hi Bod et al,
I'm a first timer who found the flowchart early and have come back to it as I plan my start. I'm hoping for some sanity-checking of my plan.
Goals:
- Avoid dependence on too many unknowns or undeveloped skills
- Make reasonably efficient use of materials. Includes not blowing quickly through a spore supply while learning.
- As possible, avoid need for daily tending
- Avoid need for a PC (do have an 11.9 psi Instant Pot)
After reading, my plan right now is...
- Start with a spore print. Reasoning: Won't be quickly depleted as long as I handle it carefully, and no worries about syringes frozen in transit.
- Start with agar. Reasoning: Isolation should give more consistent growth; Good way to learn how to operated in an SAB. Plan is to use Pasty plates, with 3 IP cycles on successive days.
- Agar to LI. Reasoning: The blenderless process, using softer agar, looks pretty straightforward and folks are particularly happy with the inoculation.
- LI to no-verm BRF cakes with filter lids. Reasoning: No PC. Plan: Will probably transfer by syringe so I have good control over liquid volume. Will check on whether 5 cc per half pint translates to a meaningful decrease in starting BRF water content.
- Cakes to coir bulk and casing in a monotub. Reasoning: Avoid constant tending of a SGFC. Plan: Divide into individual trays, carefully handling cakes separately, so that any undetected contams can be removed.
Any thoughts? I'm least settled on fruiting but have the most time to think about it!
Thanks!
