Hey, I was hoping you could help out. I grated brf cakes -3 half pints - into a 1/2 ratio and they have been in darkness and cold temps for the last 11 days and this is what I have. I just wasn’t sure if they are colonized enough to cut open the bag yet? There is visible moisture inside and I tried to pump a fresh gulp of air in. And the substrate feels solid. I’d appreciate your opinion! It’s my first

Thank you and yes i used out grows 50/50 manure and straw. I actually put it in a tote and stuck it in the woods. I had to I have a studio and someone was here for a week and the temps started warming a bit so I left them till today. I opened the bag and cleanly abosorbed the moisture with paper towels, as when I initially sealed it I gave it a couple of mists and I don’t think I should have. So I resealed it with poly and put it in a cuboard with a stick-it light above it. But this bag spent the first week at an average temperature of 42-46 degrees. No more than 65 till today when it was 70. Smells and looks good so far and I’m kinda surprised it filled in this much at that temp. The second nite it got down to 28! Looks like 50%. So do I let it go until it starts pinning?

well I cut a few holes and taped them and the bag dried a bit. It just started showing little pins- about 4 that I can see. Just wondering if there should be more moisture than what’s showing, it’s been 3 weeks today.
And I had a 1/2 pint cake that was dunked and rolled and sat in a bag for 10 days in cool temps that I then grated into a 1/2 pint of pasteurized coir. That thing has colonized faster than the horse poo sub did , we’ll See. This seems dry too though with no moisture up the bag past the sub? Bag too big for that small amount? Medium size bag. I mixed it a week ago. Thanks for any comments!
Side note: about me.. I had been thinking about getting into cultivating for several years and never pulled the trigger until now, I hunted for the first time this past fall after starting to feel desperate about finding some medicinal mushrooms, as I found them to be awesome. But while learning and reading about habitat I discovered how good GA was for hunting. I grew up in Roswell, GA working landscaping! I vividly remember seeing big clusters in the grasses and EVERYWHERE. Blowing leaves into the islands and covering them. Lol It’s crushing. We always thought you could only find the good ones in south GA. Any help on the bags would be huge but I’m now seeing how these guys decide who they bless with their presence. They’ve only found me I’d say 5 times. But best to appreciate what they are and what they’re capable of before discovering cultivation and having an ample supply. At least for impulsive people like me! This site is amazing and seeing the huge age range of people who are by all accounts experts is pretty amazing. I’ll wash more balls for good advice. Sincerely

Just the verm that I covered it with. I was gonna toss it because the inside of the cake was like a light mahogany brown and shiny. Smelled strong mushroom so I mixed it. The first two bag pics are a horse manure straw 3 weeks and the small one is coir I mixed a week ago. Funny I was concerned about the moisture the last couple days but just got home and it was full of condensation. I hope that’s good for me!
