Would 1.5 mil polypropylene be too thin for a 55 gallon drum sterilizer for sawdust/shavings?

That's a common bag thickness for 1 or 2 kg bags.

Straw is more nutritional than wood, however wood has a much higher carbon content.
More data here, if you make the wood like straw it should be better.

I spawned these pink oysters to coco fibre and verm 1:1 last week and was surprised to see they'd already fruited. They'd been covered with a plastic bag and I hadn't noticed anything was going on.

The fruits are growing 360 degrees but are tiny. The caps appear to be mature (low FAE and light). Should I harvest these or wait and see if they get any bigger?

Some of the jars were probably a bit bacterial and had been waiting too long. One was pinning in the jar.

Grateful for any advice thanks.

A lot of fruiting area = small mushrooms too.

If caps are flat harvest, curled under wait. ideally the caps should be still curled under a little bit, but you probably want to get a little more size.

Thanks vatman. I've a couple more of these colonising so I'll clingfilm up some of the holes.

Thanks quadman. I'm going to feel like a giant eating these.

Yeah, I just didn't feel like framing out small chambers with different climate needs...going to use it for some species requiring cooler temps.  I like the ports, too!

[Request: side-by-side]

Has anyone ever run several types of mycelium on a substrate of the same mix and size, side-by-side.
And then run a % BE figure for each types used, if so please link or add your data.

I would find this data invaluable, and will be very appreciated.

Wow- great thread already! Good idea OP!

Im building a mushroom room in my detached garage. Im having trouble deciding if I should build a platform on blocks so I can have a drain running out or if I should just use the concrete floor and mop any excess water out. I may create a thread soon with my designs

I've thought about using pallets wrapped in heavy duty plastic with a drain set up would be an easy, cheap way to address this- however longevity may be another issue.

Inspired by vatman, I am fermenting rice hulls to try to improve their water retention and nutrition. I'm going to leave them submerged for a week (3 days in so far) and do a side by side using blue oyster.

You know how I love my side by sides

I was growing oysters in my house until I heard how dangerous the spores are to inhail. Now grow them outside in buckets with holes drilled in them. Works good.

I fruit in my room and was starting to experience issues when SpeakSoftly and JanuaryWolf suggested I duct out the window and provided me with ducting and a fabed window insert and now as long as all systems are normal you cannot tell it is in the room at all as it is completely contained.

Looking forward to the rest of this thread

I know someone is. I was thinking of making a ghetto one out of an electric ground auger drill. Would need to makeshift a housing and reverse the direction of the drill. (Might require breaking the housing of the auger)

Other option is building one with a pulley system like from China

Or buying one from China
