Not sure how the brf would mix/blend with the straw. And, Hatter, you get far superior results when supplementing. Unless you're using large spawn ratios and even then, if you want fat fruit and decent yields, you'll want to supplement. Check out some of buckeye oysters' grows...he did some killer shit with straw, alfalfa and newspaper...both edibles and cubes.
Here are the 3 nebrodensis "summer trumpet" blocks before casing and going into the tent, just now. HFP and 30% bran sup. Each bag was a little over 3lbs 5lbs (my reishi blocks are just over 3lbs) and received just under 1/3qt of spawn...so not much.

I think I read somewhere about using spent cube sub for oysters..may try that to see how that works mixed with straw and or brf

That was ham. I don't think he had the best results with it though. I'd give the straw/brf a spin before recycling sub. Pet stores carry alfalfa cubes/pellets.

They'll carry horse-sized alfalfa cubes in a 50lb bag.

I can pretty much guarantee the cubensis will have consumed a major portion of the nutrients. There will be plenty of carbon available, so indeed the waste will need replenishing.
Any normal method used to enrich wood should yield good results.
Awesome work peeps, still taking notes.

What would be the best spawn to use if I am transferring cellulose genetics, but need the starch-sugar as starter carbon?
I'm guessing the wild bird seed I am using may be better suited already due to higher cellulose levels. The wild bird seed also has varying composition, which may allow better transfer.
I would rather not use naked grains, as I require more plant fiber.

I love quadman's reishi <3 not sure if the same variety as mycolorado's, but looks great.
What is HFP? Is nebro known to have different substrate preferences than eryngii?
I had a Hericium jar and yeah it did grow a rather dense fruit up and outwards but I would really recommend against it, just way too much water pooling problems etc, same issue with a pioppino jar I cased. @ the pioppino, I soaked and crumbled the consolidated myc (supplemented beech chips - smallish size btw - with some extra sawdust) into trays and cased it. You can allow these trays to drain though unlike jars.
Looking really great! Will be putting them in my martha now that I bought a new [well another second-hand] humidifier for 10eu..

It seems my FAE is only moderately okay, so will dial it in better for the pioppino.. though I like the texture of the bear's head and lion's mane like this! (Can't really compare and also haven't grown massive fruits so also no serious hanging teeth).
What is the downside to harvesting smaller fruits due to 'teething'? Shouldn't the total yield be more or less the same?
I also wonder what the lifespan of ultrasonic hums is like and if, like DHT sensors, they break down quicker if you operate them in high humidity? If this one breaks down too I am definitely going for a better solution.
Keeping the Hericium okay-ish with perlite right now while in between humidifiers.

Yes, MyColorado is growing the same culture of reishi I have. Unless he switched on me LOL.
HWP is hardwood pellets used fuel in pellet stove.
Your lions mane if it is Hericium E. you need more fresh air the fruits will get much more sense and taste better imo. Cooler growing temps help also.
I been using Crane utrasonic used and got at least 12 months out of the first.

What's up guys!
So I just took my shiitake blocks out of the fridge and put them into my GH to acclimate before cutting them out of the bags; But they all seem to have a lot of metabolite buildup. Is that fairly normal with shiitake? First grow and I got quite a few bags goin so I just wanna make sure they're ok before busting out of the bags. Thanks!

Mine never have much metabolites. Blocks that I fruit ,get a soak in the bag. Then they get a good showering off before going into fruiting. Keeps my chamber loads cleaner. Runoff from shiitake gets the wife complaining. If you have a bunch of metabolites then maybe your sub had a lot of moisture?

I did have a lot of moisture it was closer to 60+% vs the 55 i was aiming for. The bottoms of the bags had a tad bit of waterlogging. Are they ok you think? Are the metabolites useful medicinally?

If it's just metabolites they should be fine. I would just shower them off real good. How old are your blocks are they browned off good?

I made a big liquid culture of lions mane, since I had 500cc of the stuff I tried using more than usual. I soaked my birdseed for less time than usual and after sterilization hit the jars with about 15 cc of lc look about half colonized after 3 days. Much quicker.
Edit: All in the compost bin now. That will teach me to inoculate a crate of jars without properly testing my lc.
