yeah it will work. Buying stuff like that will get really costly. Just head over to a tractor supply or hardware store they usually carry hardwood wood pellets or straw. Theres a sawmill near me that gives me sawdust for free so do some research to try and save money anywhere you can.
Also to anyone reading this I would like some input on my agar recipe. I use .5g yeast 10g dextrose and 5g agar per 250ml water (10 plates). Most species grow on it really well/fast but I noticed my King Oyster cultures seem to lag behind. It may just be slower compared to phoenix oyster. I just wanted to know if anyone had a better recipe specifically for K.O or some advice.

Seems like a high dextrose percentage...standard media recipe is around 2% nutrient content and tad more varied. You might try MEA or add some potato flakes to your recipe to make it PDYA...

But from a cost standpoint that shredded mulch is a great deal. I pay like 8$ for 1 bag of fuel pellets. so even if your yield is less youll be able to just fruit more
Not so sure if he will be able to make a why fuel pellets are better video. Wtf just had to dump that whole run due to contamination.
Wtf seems to have all their labor done by volunteers (who pay for the privilege) the job of separating free woodchips from debris is not worth paying for the the education of the experience. That is what led him to try fuel pellets.
He thought they would increase his throughput but failed to consider the cool down requirements of a more densely packed pc.
I love that guys Webcasts though.

A whole run contamed? That's not good. Sawdust over woodchips for everything but large outdoor beds.

Yes that had to hurt the wallet. I use the same pellets as "what the fungus" for my tiny projects. The problem does not seem to be the pellets.
Do you know why anyone would sterilize their bulk substrates?. I can't see why they are loading them into their pcs. I'm just a noob but boiling water and an insulated bucket seem to work for me

I load everything in the pressure cooker. If you want high yields , you have to provide nutrients. Supplements contaminate easily. Less space , less material per mushrooms produced.

Yep. Need to supplement for exponentially higher yields (my side by sides generally tripled my yields on oysters) and if you supplement you must sterilize.

I see, I haven't started supplements yet. Better learn quick I guess, I have a tonne of lions mane agar dishes now. I thought they were failing so I kept making new ones. Then they all suddenly woke up .

Fosho, LL!
@ Leftfield - as mentioned, oysters do well on straw and will do very well if it's supplemented...alfalfa works great with straw. Otherwise, you can use sterilized sawdust/hardwood fuel pellets (HFP) supplemented with bran. Depending on where people are located, they will typically employ whatever agricultural byproducts or waste (straw/cane bagasse/soy bean hulls/etc) that are at their disposal.

Would oysters doing ok spawning colonized grains to just straw, or is it a poor performance without supplementing the straw?
