My partner has me making them tinctures of reishi, we buy the reishi and use 65% ethanol, because my partner says the one's most sell are garbage.
They did ask if we used say 200 proof instead of 130 proof how would that change the tincture, would it make it better doing a better job with extracting the reishi stuff or is it too high and might make it worse.
We use a dual extraction we saw on you tube and our tinctures are nice with the ethanol we're using, but there is some organic 200 proof we were looking at that really if we buy a gallon not too much more expensive.
Also how would this question apply to other medicinal mushrooms or maybe even magic?

QQ: I am fruiting my Reishi in their bags and have never opend them. I am wondering, would it benefit the growth if I would open em up and spray em a little bit with water?

Because they'll dry out. If you have a high humidity environment that's reasonably clean to put them they'll continue to grow

Yeah no, I would close the bags after misting the inside ^^ But in that case I just won't risk it and leave them as they are. Thanks Stromrider!

Maitake seems to be a tricky one. I only ran it once so donβt have a lot of experience with it but would say, yeah, high humidity, cool, lots of FAE.

Noticing some pins appearing, whats the best action to fruit these black poplar mushrooms, with no tent/FC?

Unfortunately lost my other gourmet projects to contamination so wasnβt exactly ready for this.

Lol i think i may owe my vendor an apology.
Got what looked to be loose millet grain that was supposed to be AUS shitake grain spawn. Contacted vendor saying what the fuck...vendor said will recover when exposed to new gain and agar. I said fuck off (basically).
Dropped some grain on agar and the rest into a 2lb bag of wheat and both are doing well now lol. I guess this is why im an amateur mycologist

Hey, bought a new commercial fridge second-hand couple weeks ago and today I when I went to work I noticed the temperature was -13C (8.6F) and my grain spawn was frozen. Is it dead now or good to use?

It's probably OK. What kind of spawn?
Is the refrigerator in a hot environment?

Ok nice. It's commercial grain spawn (millet) in 15 liter filter bags. The fridge is at 64F. It's some malfunction it just keeps going colder even if the temp is lower than I set and the fridge sounds an low temp alarm. I think I'll put the spawn in room temp (64F) couple of days before inoculating so it can catch up.

fairly resilient, praying for you. let us know if you see recovery!
Spawned 3 bags of Aus shitake to HWSD yesterday. No supplement. Assumed that the SD was over 0% moisture but under 10% as felt pretty dry but that not very accurate is it? Added 50% water by weight to bring it up to 50-60% hydration. Need a new selaer though. MY one sucks balls.
Any tips how to keep moisture away from where im sealing? i dont think wiping it is smart..

I feel like I've asking this before, but I can't remember if I ever actually typed it up.
I had previously asked about grain to bulk ratios with LM and people were saying 1:15-1:20 is about right. So literally 1 qt LM oats to say, 16 qt bulk substrate.
Would I be incorrect in just using straight hardwood pellets from Home Depot and just using boiling water in a cooler to get to field capacity (similar to bucket tek). This would be my first try at LM after cleaning up this dirty vendor LC.
--------------------
Everything I have typed is purely fiction, and is purely for personal amusement. All images I've posted are not mine and I am simply posting interesting things I found on the Google.

If you're using straight sawdust with no supplements you need to use extra grain spawn. The grain will be your supplement. When using supplements like bran or soy hulls you can get by with using very little spawn but without the extra nutrients you'll get poor yeilds using such a small amount of spawn. Maybe try different amounts and see what happens. I've never grown lions mane on straight sawdust so I cant give you an exact answer.
