I put a drop on a few plates of lmea with some yeast extract. Will probably go to LI from there. The rest of the syringe went to jars with grain and broth. I am not sure why you would use both sugars but I have not done LC for a while.

Just following the masters from terrestrialfungi
"6 L water 3/8 cup dextrose 3/8 cup malt extract 1 TBS calcium carbonate
Sediment should be expected, simply agitate regularly when using. An LC recipe with calcium carbonate should not be used with a stir-bar as it will wear out the Teflon coating and grind away at the bottom of the jar. I simply handshake once a day. "
That sentence make me think i could do it without calcium carbonate.

I checked out my initial LM LC that I decided to leave alone. This was the first transfer from a contaminated LM LC from vendor, so I had several others that I had continued on to clean up and make my own LC out of.
Anyways, I looked today and have this adorable little LM fruit. I was curious...I assume vendors for gourmets aren't sending isolated genetics. Also, LM on agar looks very different than cubes or the Agarikon culture I have going. So, I was wondering if trying to clone this little guy would be good practice / ideal somehow, or should I just appreciate that it existed.

the hole is from a transfer point.

I had cultures sent on myceliated grain and they recovered on agar. It took about 3-5 days. I'm not sure how grain would be any better than agar? Sounds like they are blowing smoke up your ass.

i don't think they want him to put it to agar and never buy from them again ... so yeah agar sounds like a good idea

So I’ve built a laminar flow unit and have some filter patch bags on order, excited to be able to sterilise and inoculate bagged bulk substrate!
What is a good all-rounder bulk substrate to use for oyster, king, shiitake, lions mane?
Soy hulls aren’t really an option so probably supplementing with wheat bran….
Thanks in advance

If you cant get soy husk pellets then masters mix is off the cards, Hardwood fuel pellets or hardwood saw dust (coarse) supplemented with wheat bran works great

These are just two pics of the more interesting tub of the 3 that I have running. It's quite a little tub but still a good bit more room than several jars.

First attempt at bulking cordy. I feel like my next attempt will go much smoother.

Best way to avoid the mycelium fuzz growing on caps is to pick them younger/smaller. I've noticed bigger fruits fuzz up more readily than smaller fruits so a larger pinset is ideal. This is my experience with black kings.

I think I got my steam sterilizer issue whooped... insulated it very well and it only took like 10hrs for bag temps to reach 205°F... I killed the power then and it took over 100hrs to cool down under 100°F... I will probably need to prep a lil earlier, but I feel much more confident since there wasn't 100°F difference in temps of bags.. at most there was a 4°F difference this last run

So, quick update on the run of the six cultures from 2015, week 3.
We had some cold weather during the week, so the temps were around 18°C. It's now 22. I was observing daily and was kinda worried on the grain colonization speed because there wasn't too much growth visible, but I'm actually pretty pleased now after I checked everything today while taking pictures. I have shaken everything around day 3 or so.
I replated this pulmonarius and this is one week of growth - around 6 or 7 cm. Looks quick enough. I got this one from a buddy as P. pulmonarius 'wawy'. Has anyone heard about this strain ever?
The myc on grain is looking better by the day. I have 14 jars running.

And these are ready to hit the fridge again, poor bastards

Will keep you posted on the progress.
Yeah, the date was actually 11.05. This is 8 days of growth, not 7.
cheers

Am I being incredibly picky or are Wine cap mushrooms stems not great to eat? I love the caps but to me the stem has a strange vegetable-like taste and kind of a tough texture. Stems will be for the compost bin going forward.

I guess it's like broccoli to me, it's not my favorite but I eat the whole thing
