I use sawdust pellets that are meant to be put in pet cages etc. It doesn't even say what sawdust they are made of, so I bet it's the cheapest LM still grows happily on them. Just make sure you are using some larger wood shavings with the sawdust.

I started with pellets (both hardwood and sorfwood and mixes) but now primarily use hardwood chips/dust from someone who cuts firewood. He dumps it in 20 yard piles in my farm driveway It takes a little more effort to process and time to sterilize compared to pellets but totally works great

Hmm. The stuff I got was in a variety of grades all mixed together and worked fine. Perhaps I should have said βwasteβ as opposed to dust.

Well, I can get fuel pellets, they are just mostly made from firs. But I can get some hardwood shavings, which are used for small critters.
Don't have a car atm, otherwise it would be easy to drive to a sawmill ^^

Sounds totally workable. Most Gourmets that βwontβ grownin fir typically can handle the fir stove pellets fine some with a slower run and lower yield., mix in a little hardwood and even the pickier species should do alright

Do people also use nutr. yeast when cultivation gourmets in ther LMEA or is it better to just go plain LMEA?

every gourmet culture I've ever ordered has came on MYA.... actually making up some MYPA (malt yeast peptone agar) right now, just to see what kind of results I get with it instead of PDA or MEA

fir pellets is the only ones I can get at a reasonable price and I use them for oysters never calculated BE but I'm planning to test them against straw (the other sub i can get cheaply) hear it's super messy that I'll end up picking straw from my asshole but whatever

Hell ya! Put the agar to masters mix quart plastics yesterdayβ¦. Aka munchβs bottle tek, with the hole down the middle before pc. I compressed the mix pretty firmly, but it still seemed to collapse into the dowel holeβ¦.
Any ideas how to keep the hole from collapsing in the pc? I did run a few with a short dowel in the bottle, becaUse those bottles were on their side in the pc, and took it out At inoculation in front of flow hoodβ¦.

The Apioperdon pyriforme (pear-shaped puffball/woodloving) put on agar 7 days ago has woke up. I noticed it last night. I am really excited about this one. I cant find any mention of this specie in regard to cultivation. Maybe because its relatively common to find? Or because it has a short shelf life ( fresh)?
It looks whispy. Ihope its not something else that was on the plate.

Interesting to see how it turns out! Please keep us posted. I have a few species on my todo list regarding spore collection and cultivation attempts. Planning on doing those when the season starts...

So, since I could save my LM mycelium I was wondering, how to proceed now. What would be the best approach and substrate?
I was thinking if growing in a mico bag and then for fruiting putting it in a Monotub filled with a bit of water and just letting it fruit out of the top of the bag (would be cutting the bag at substrate level). And as substrate I was thinking of just using Firepellet which are made out of different needle trees or hardwood sawdust(for reptile terrariums).
Can I just dropp the Agar wedges into Rye Grain like when growing cubes? Sorry I am totaly new to these^^
