Just bathed a couple jars of lions mane wbs and put them in my greenhouse shelf. Hoping for some Quadman quality fruit this time.
I have plenty of spawn colonizing so I may try to make a proper suplemented sawdust recipe next week or so.
Had a rough patch where I ruined a couple pc loads of grain with lions mane/trichoderma lc. It's nice to be into clean spawn again.
Thanks for the reminders of what it looks like done right Quadman.

I'm far from perfect. Even a blind sow finds an acorn now and then. Thanks for the compliments.

I spawned 1 quart each of these jars to unsupplemented hardwood fuel pellets on 10/27. Now they look like this:

Should I put these in fruiting conditions already? Or should I have not included the plenum of air? It's worrying me that they're already trying to fruit this fast. Is that normal or a sign of bacteria?

If thats Hericium it does that bs.
I squeezed all the air out n let colonize in the dark but now it wants to take it time to fruit

Nice thread

Some images for anthiawe, myco leather, made by Tarragon. The paper falls of to make a mat. It feels light, and more like silicone, 2-3 mm thick, I guess I need to cook it?

hey ferather, you can get that type of material from different types of mycelium but once its dried it cracks and break. You'll have to treat it with something. How to grow it so the end product is leather - in texture, strength, and workable sizes of material - like fabric by the yard.

I fruit my lions mane bags after 12 days. 1 qt of spawn is overkill. You could do 4-8 bags per quart. The plenum of air is fine and I think aids in fast colonization. After you shake the bags, try gently pressing and shaping the bag back into a block. I don't like it when there are pockets between the sub and bag, things seem to pin in these spots. Also, the bags look pretty wet, but that might be the picture. Did the spawn smell unpleasant? Press down on the bag and smell near the filter patch, is it gross or pleasantly mushroom like? If it was that bacterial it would smell. A little bacterial and you might get low yields or some really deformed looking fruits. Each mycelium has its own unique smell when healthy, but bacteria is often present without causing a bad smell.

I’m attempting an oyster grow in bags. I’m assuming that sterilizing supplemented fuel pellets is fine as long as I mix everything up inside my sab? Spawn and substrate will never be in open air (until fully colonized and the bags are cut)

Got to work in a sterile environment for supplemented, sterilized bags.

Ok. I had some aged matting a while ago (brown) from a 2 year old cake, it was far stronger. What would be the best material to treat it? Would sodium bicarbonate work?
I'm guessing the sodium will cause it to shrink and lose water?

Here is the two year old mat, it even looks a bit like leather. I got it to regenerate and grow.

Treating it with something that allows it to remain pliable and strong and not dry and crack. I've never used anything to treat it since I'm still thinking on how to get a decent sized piece thats clean and cold be marketable. Once I get that piece than I'll move towards treating it - I think that is the less difficult part. from what I know the major company working on this uses reishi. It may act different than your tarragon oysters

Ok, I'll get some reishi running and try a shallow bed.

shallow bed, temps will play a role. Not sure how to work the substrate into the equation here. Does it get consumed and just becomes a part of the final product or is the mycelium that puffs up a bit above the substrate get separated from the substrate and get used?

Depends on if you're talking about myco materials like insulation boards or myco leather. I belive the leather is mycelium or mycelium laminate.
