Have you had kings before?  Not sure how they're "supposed" to taste...I sauteed them whole for about 15 min in butter and then add a chipotle cream sauce, reduced and then topped with Mexican cheeses and broiled a few minutes.  I paid the price at about 3 am for eating nearly 3 cups of fungus.

Mine were not fishy tasting, at least compared to lions mane. The texture is what makes king oysters so similar to scallops. They have a certain bounce to them then they disintegrate into juice once you chomp with enough pressure.

Sorry to hear of your overdose. at 1 cup I felt no discomfort.

No...no fishy taste, definitely a texture thing.  It was just the amount of fiber involved that I had a "reaction" to...

I recently ate a Fly Agaric cap after Alan told me it's one of the finest edibles. Straight in the pan, no pre-cooking. According to Alan, the poison makes it taste good. You shouldn't eat too much of it of course, but it certainly was delish! Very scallopy as well!

I found and dried a flush of fly agaric last year. I've tasted a couple crackers. They are yummy but... ...I still don't recommend them.

Drying is good for enteogenic use at a later date. For food, just throw em in the pan and only have a nibble, a cap at most (if you live in cold zones this could be too much already), and make sure you don't need to drive or anything in case you start to feel drunkish. For use as a staple food you can parboil them, it's been done by several ethnic groups without any issues.

Wow, am seeing some surprisingly fast colonization rate at my Nebro spawn to bulk spawn run!! It's aggressive..
I also might be a little in over my head scale-wise or they will be some highly generous spawning

(not to mention I am having a little difficulties with my martha - apparent CO2 levels too high)

Hey Solipsis! Do you mean you have Nebrodensis spawn on hand that you don't want? Because I was actually thinking just yesterday that it's a species I'd like to try n cultivate soon...

Aw no Nebro? That's too bad... I still love Eryngii though and didn't have it yet so it's still about as useful but not as novel..
Are you looking for Eryngii too, LWizard? Yeah I will have plenty of spawn on hand, but I am also making wedges of plates today anyway..
Is Eryngii better from slits in bags, or trays?

Also cloning what I think is wild found Pleurotus Ostreatus (Well looks more like Pulmonarius but wrong time of year - apart from the climate being out of whack) but I'm gonna need an ID on that..

Pulmonarius would have been thinner Solipsis, your find looks meatier, and indeed, it's too late in the year to still encounter Pulmonarius.

I wouldn't know for sure, but for me logic would say King's are grown just as well or better in a mono than in slitted bags. The reasoning behind this would be that regular oysters can be grown mono style but will gain more stem at the cost of shelf, while with Kings, you'd actually like more stem. But I wouldn't know for sure, haven't grown em. Mycolorado?

Good point! Well I cloned it - will probably do a small grow to help ID, can also do some reishi grown right inside the bags but other than that my martha is getting crowded.

Wild oysters, if that is what they are, sure look different from cultivated ones.. I guess they're very common but I don't really remember finding Oysters before...

I wonder if there is anything I could do when I go to France again, to make a 'travelers culture' of any mushroom I might find... is there any other way then taking the whole shebang with me to clone a piece? Maybe prepare agar plates in advance and keep them in the freezer? Or just put a sterile piece from inside and put it in an epp tube.

Seems to be dialed in much better now: extra ventilation really gets rid of a lot of air as demonstrated by the pretty big humidity drop even on the other side - right after that I rigged the humidifier to take 15 minutes to get RH right up again but no excess (fine-tuning that) followed by 30 minutes of status quo..
AA+ tubs were showing aerial myc followed by gnarly overgrowth, even looking like miniature unopened coprinus C clubs. Still no pins though and not my pioppino either. IDK whats going on, afaik I should just be patient now that I probably fixed possible excessive CO2 levels.

Not sure if you want the Eryngii but I made some wedges anyway so I might as well include them in a pack with other wedges i'll send you, just in case.
No seeds or anything, right?

With Kings the stems sure do taste great, I wouldn't know if it would be nice if they also had some more shelf

Those antlers are really dope, Steevo =D :Awemazing:

I would say that's sound logic.  TBH, this is my first round on them and I fruited them outdoor,so they developed more or less like a "regular looking" mushroom with a fairly even distribution of cap and stem.

A lot of oysters you see in the store aren't Ostreatus. They're Pulmonarius. In fact, I believe most oysters on the market are Pulmonarius, but that's probably also a bit dependant on your area. Since we're in the same general area, I imagine the same to be true for you.
