Squeezing out wont get enough moisture out IME, lipa tek uses measured amounts. Ditch the bricks either way they seem like a hassle. Get the pellets and do ~1:1 water to pellets by volume, better to go a little dry IMO. 6cups of each makes a roughly 5lb bag. I use fir pellets for all my shelf oysters at 6:7 pellets to water because those seem like they compress more than hardwoods, which cost me more so I reserve them for king oysters piopinno and lions mane, which will grow on straight fir with decreased yields, but even then to shave a little more off costs I mix 50:50 with fir.

@ ShaperDreaming
If you are using jars, or in my case, 80mm tall pp5 rounds, you can add sterilized wooden toothpicks (cut down, pliers), to any colonized agar plate. Store them in a centrifuge vial, you can also cut a wedge around the pegs, then pull the peg, and store both complete.
Wood tends to store for years, when you want to transfer, stick the peg or wedge, in new agar.

All of mine so far have revived from prolonged fridge time.
Definitely go the master slant route. Save yourselves! women and children first polypores and shiitake first!
I think it's Frank horrigan that has a good master slant tek, as another option.

Look for Eppendorf tubes. You can find them in your local shop with lab supplies - it's pretty basic equipment.

Also called micro-centrifuge tubes. Should be easy to find on amazon/eBay.
I've heard that pink oysters won't survive in the fridge. Might be the same for some other tropical species. Most of the commonly grown edibles should do fine for years in a slant in the fridge.

I heard that too, but my pink oysters grew well after two weeks in fridge.

Yes they can be stored in the fridge, most cultures can, for example Pleurotus salmoneo-stramineus dies below 10Β°C.
Micro Plastic Test Tube Centrifuge Vial Snap Cap (1.5ml).

They are also used to send people wedges, or pegs. I also purchased small zip-locks, to help seal the vials for sending. Simply add the vial(s), then push out the air (fold around the vials), then seal the zip-lock.
Here are some wedges that are over 2 years old, and can still be used.

Here's that bag:

This is many shades darker of wood than I started out with. It wasn't as wet when it started out either. I had another thought that I may be suffocating it? It has a 0.5micron filter patch, is that enough?
Also, thanks for all the other information as well.

I have a 12x20 area within an outdoor metal shed that I'm slowly converting into a fruiting room. What are my options for humidifying the place? I'd like something flexible, like patio misters, but AFAIK those are not sufficient. I may end up dividing the fruiting area into seperate rooms for species that have conflicting fruiting parameters (like blue and pink oysters), so it would be nice to just put patio misters on the cieling in all rooms, rather than get a humidifier for each room. Especially so if I'll also need seperate heaters for each room.. Anyway, I'm just looking for a solution I like, thanks!

This is more what I was asking about: http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/5884005#5884005. A clone may contain various sets of genetics and sectors if the clone itself was not an isolated monoculture.

I accidentally inoculated a master pint of milo with Shiitake and BHT (cube). Any thoughts? I might spawn it to a half barrel, that drains well, full of mulch that served as an outdoor cube substrate. I figure they will both colonize and fruit in their respective temps.

Definitely Looks way too wet. I would try to hit the same field capacity you do for coir, if you can squeeze water out of it its too wet.

SunnyDayze said: Hey guys,
I've had to move in with a friend and after what I have in blocks are done I won't be growing gourmet for a while. I would love to share wedges of what I have though:
Oysters: Yellow, blue, pearl, king reishi, shiitake, LM, enoki
If anyone is interested PM me.
Also, what is the best way to keep these long term? They are great cultures and don't want to lose them, just not sure when I can get to them again.
Thanks all for the help and advice here

Still up for offers guys! I think I'm going to wait until my amazon order comes in so I can send the smaller vial containers, plates are a bit of a pain in the ass and sending to USA and Europe will be lots cheaper so be patient I'll let you all know when they come in, should be this week and send out next week latest.
I'm excited to get these done and out of the way so I don't have to worry about them anymore

Got I quick question my mush family
So, normally I been doing HWFP and 1 quart of spawn per block.
Currently I have my first supplemented blocks (5cups HWFP & 1 1/4 cup wheat bran, 1400g H2O)
Should I still use a full quart jar per block or is that excessive? I did it before because I was told it would be beneficial because of only HWFP only do not have tons of nutrition.
This time around it is Shiitake I'm going to be using.
